another one of my old-ass chars.. and another spiritual prototype of dia lol. i do want to change his design quite a bit cuz its boring and doesn't really fit the setting. (hair on the pic is already changed, originally he had his bangs lay over eyes, not slicked back with other hair)
The funny thing about folks recommending Pillowfort as a less bad alternative in the face of the latest Tumblr update is... okay.
Let's set aside the fact that Pillowfort is a ghost town that's perpetually about six weeks away from bankruptcy. Hand-wringing about "note stealing" notwithstanding, the actual problem with Tumblr's new interaction model is that second-order engagements (e.g, commented reblogs of commented reblogs, replies to commented reblogs, etc.) are now very difficult for the author of a reblog chain's root post to even be aware of, much less meaningfully interact with.
Pillowfort's "solution" to this problem is to be so institutionally gunshy about anyone ever having an interaction they didn't explicitly opt into that most types of second-order engagement are simply not permitted at all.
Like, I get that we're grasping for alternatives where no good alternatives exist, but from the perspective of fixing the real, functional problem, responding to Tumblr's new interaction model by migrating to Pillowfort is like treating a broken ankle by cutting off your leg!
It's actually kind of striking how every platform that's touted itself as the Next Tumblr Alternative has ended up hobbling the one functional affordance that set (pre-update) Tumblr apart from other platforms not for any technical reason, but on purely philosophical grounds. Cohost was so averse to the spectre of monetisation that it deliberately made it as difficult as possible to extract useful engagement metrics from posts, thereby starting out with the same discoverability problem regarding second-order interactions that Tumlr has now acquired, while Bluesky's stance has been and continues to be that interactions which aren't explicitly opt-in just shouldn't be possible in the first place, which makes the commented reblog chain interaction model a non-starter.
pillowfort also has super draconian content policies and has kicked people off the platform before for breaking rules that weren't even in the TOS (and then retroactively adding them later when there was public outcry about it)
pillowfort is NOT a good replacement for tumblr. i'm so tired of it being recommended.
pillowfort banned one person for posting sexual lolisho before the rule against it was put into place. it was one person, 6+ years ago. they have apologized for it and unbanned that person, and since then have been very thorough in deciding whom to ban. there was a very notorious poster, who was only banned after the moderators have been collecting evidence against him for a couple of years, and then made a public post about it, too. they do not ban people on a whim.
every new policy they put out after that (like the blanket ban of all gen-ai content) has been done with community deciding for or against its implementation.
you still ranting about their unjust behaviour and "draconian" policies - after that hasn't been true for years - without doing a single bit of research fucking stinks.
when they "unbanned" that person, they gave them a blank blog. they didn't reinstate the blog in full.
i don't care if it happened once, six years ago, the fact that it happened at ALL means the mod team is NOT TRUSTWORTHY
