Speaking up and educating people on why the most hated life forms on the planet are important and meaningful is a thankless task.
How do we reach out and get people to care about insects and spiders when the average reaction is either "EEWW KILL IT WITH FIRE" or blind panic?
Arthropods are crucial to the survival of life as we know it. Yes, even commonly vilified bugs like wasps and mosquitoes have ecological niches that the world CANNOT do without.
I cannot overstate their importance.
Literally saw someone on an unrelated post complaining about me for doing this and outright claiming I "don't think we should kill PARASITES" because I guess they think all parasites affect humans. I have literally posted about how to avoid parasites or rid them from your body, and the effective ways to kill fleas and ticks in your house. But every time I try to explain that all of those organisms have a greater more important impact on the rest of the planet and have to continue existing in the wild, how most of them aren't even adapted in a way that could ever harm a human, and how they don't deserve needless suffering for the way they simply involved, some basket case flips their shit and thinks I want them to get lyme disease. People who can't be bothered to understand their own world are completely incapable of separating simple logic from primitive squeamishness and believe everything in nature is out to get them personally.

#WHY DOES THE DOT ON IT'S EYES MOVE???? #OH MY GOD IT'S ACTUALLY A PUPIL????!!! #this is a turning point in my life
Close but not quite! It's called a pseudopupil and if I'm remember the science right it's because we're seeing directly into the interior of the eye. Something about light refraction. @revretch would be able to explain better
I'm not great at explaining it, but basically the little eyes making up the compound eye absorb light when facing you directly, but reflect the light at other angles. As a result, there's a dark spot that always seems to be following you!

Tubifera ferruginosa by Jeff Wonders, New York, USA.
the thing about adulthood is when someone says something extremely rude to you, you can either turn the other cheek or calmly & firmly correct them. The third option is to tell them “say that again, I’ll bite you” & everyone sort of nervously laughs and tries to move on from your little joke. Which is why I think it’s very important that when they do say it again you follow through. Nobody actually expects you to bite them. We should be biting more. Also if you’re with the county health department do not read thi s post

São Tomé Caecilian (Schistometopum thomense), family Dermophiidae, endemic to São Tomé and Ilhéu das Rolas (Africa)
photographs by m_burger
In case anyone's curious, Caecilians are a group of blind worm/snake shaped amphibians. This one in particular is locally called a Cobra Bobo by locals.
cobra bobo :)
Relatable
I forgot people don't generally know what these animals look like with their mouths open. This isn't the same species but this is a very typical caecilian:

Per request, the Atlantic Bigeye (Priacanthus arenatus)!
