The Backstory I'm going with:

Basil Karlo was a very popular actor and heartthrob in the 80s, staring in a lot of successful films and shows over the years. But as time passed and he became visibly older, he stopped getting cast in as many roles, which did a number on his self worth. Fast forward 40 years later, and the combination of substance abuse, a cancer scare, copious plastic surgeries, and the ravages of time as left him a husk of his old self, and no longer desirable. He was kicked off of his shows, and snubbed from celebrity events. Hollywood abandoned him.

After his husband passes away of health complications and he hears news they are remaking one of his iconic films, he's left alone and desperately yearning to rekindle his youth, and leading him to volunteer to try an experimental and unregulated de-aging cream. The cream takes decades off of his face and allows him to audition for the role in the remake. But of course, abusing the experimental substance causes his body to break down into a clay like substance, horrifying the studio.
