In astrology there are signs that are more or less compatible. The signs are in essence representative of archetypes of the unconscious and they live out their expressions through our lives. It’s common knowledge that certain people are more or less compatible, which depends on the personal planetary placements and how they interact with another person’s placements.

People are complex and can’t be reduced to a single sign (their Sun sign for example). However, if a person has a lot of planets in a particular sign, they might find that other people with a lot of planets in the squaring sign (90° apart on the zodiac wheel) presents conflicting and disturbing energy. The signs that naturally square each other have a tense relationship because they have the same modes of expression (cardinal/fixed/mutable) but are placed in a different element (fire/earth/water/air). The difference in element poses a significant dilemma, between masculine (fire/air) and feminine (earth/water), mythical and intellectual vs. mortal and emotional.

Let’s finish this series with the mutable signs (read my post about the cardinal and fixed squares as well). While cardinal signs are using either the intellect (air), emotions (water), physicality (earth) or spirit (fire) to move toward a goal and accomplish something of importance, fixed signs are using one of the four elements to establish a certain reality, to attach to a concept (air), an emotion (water), a physical situation (earth) or an energy signature (fire). When it comes to the mutables, they use the four elements to rearrange, organize, evaluate, experience and observe. Take Gemini for example, the mutable air sign in contrast to Libra. Libra uses the intellect to achieve balance and a positive social identity – as a cardinal sign, it is set on a mission. Gemini on the other hand navigates the mental and social plane without any set mission or path – it seeks stimulation, variety and contrast. Mutable signs are less reliable in terms of direction than their cardinal and fixed counterparts, they are more prone to go with the flow while arranging the puzzle pieces in a way that makes sense. As it happens there’s not a lot that makes sense for long and stays the same, sooner or later readjustment and reevaluation is required. This is what the mutable sign do best – that is, adapting when it’s called for. Depending on the element of the mutable sign, the adaptation will look different.

In square to Gemini we have Virgo, the mutable earth sign. Virgo is the analyst of the zodiac, the sign that processes things in the mind until everything is properly understood and integrated as part of one’s physical existence. Both Gemini and Virgo use the intellect to navigate, but Virgo is much more grinding and serious in coming to a true understanding of why things are a certain way. Gemini doesn’t get entangled with information; it’s only a plaything, thoughts in space dancing before one’s eyes. Gemini is the sign of duality, which means that nothing is ever ultimately true and nothing really ultimately matters. This is why Gemini is more easy-going and quick than Virgo when handling information. Gemini is also more likely to bend the truth, tell the occasional “innocent” lie and make things up as situations progress. Because of the creativity and flexibility of the mutable air sign, things usually work out even if there are a few bumps in the road. Virgo can’t tolerate the kind of reckless spontaneity Gemini represents because there’s a skeptical distrust to the mutable earth sign. Earth signs in general are acutely aware of cause and effect, which is why things has to be thought through with as many consequences as possible in mind. Virgo wants everything to be done right because certain consequences can be fatal. Virgo, like all the earth signs are wary of doing things wrong because there’s too much at stake. Certain essential components must be present in order to sustain life – there’s little room for “winging it” and hoping to get by on luck. Gemini has no problem with putting faith in luck and is more trusting that everything is going to work itself out one way or another. I have written before about the signs that square each other in astrology and their conflicting energies. In this post I’m honing in on the Sagittarius-Virgo square. This conflict can play itself out within your own natal chart if you have planets in both Sagittarius and Virgo or between you and someone else. For example, if you have a Sagittarius Sun and a Virgo Moon you’ll experience this archetypal friction within yourself. Or, say that you are a Sagittarius Sun in a relationship with a Virgo Sun - then you’ll experience friction between yourself and the other person. I’m going go over hypothetical scenarios inspired by everyday life and my own personal experiences with this square. Needless to say, no one is only Sagittarius and only Virgo and people are more complex than these scenarios reflect. But it’s sometimes useful to simplify and generalize.

Scenario 1 (Sagittarius Sun – Virgo Sun)

Virgo: You should really think of improving your resume. I don’t think anyone is going to hire you with that photo; you need to look more put together. It’s only reasonable that you should take my advice on this.

Sagittarius: That’s just rude. Who are you to say?

Virgo: I actually know a great deal about how to properly construct a resume. You have to structure it a specific way or it won’t work out for you.

Sagittarius: Geez, professor nit-pick, I’ve not signed up for one of your classes.

Virgo: Do you want to have a chance of getting that job or not?

Sagittarius: You’re so stuck up - relax for once. It’s not as if the world is going to stop turning if I don’t. There are an abundance of opportunities out there, perhaps some that you can’t even conceptualize of yet. Lighten up; you don’t have to worry so much. It’s going to work out, and if it doesn’t, what the hell! It wasn’t supposed to.

Virgo: Would you at least listen to my points? You might learn something.

Sagittarius: If you could be more inspiring and less condescending I would. Honestly, your way of living seems so boring; I wouldn’t take advice from you because I think my life would suck if I did.

This is the conflict between the visionary optimist and the practical perfectionist. Sagittarius comes from a broad and philosophical outlook, which enables this sign to see the big picture. Sagittarius operates from a place of seeing life as a whole, of intuitive wisdom. Virgo comes from a more narrow and realistic point of view, which enables it to structure things efficiently and precisely. Virgo is usually a nit-pick that hones in on the specific approach to take and method of going about things. It can be very critical and obsessive over small things. Sagittarius is usually a blunt and honest to a fault. It’s known for being a truth teller and can be very passionate and bold in its statements. Virgo comes from a place of analytical dissection – Sagittarius comes from a place of intuitive knowing.

Scenario 2 (Sagittarius Sun – Virgo Moon)

Friend: I’ve been feeling so depressed lately. Everything feels heavy.

Sagittarius-Virgo: Yes, it seems to be a seasonal thing for some. Depression is so complex, but I think everyone has experienced it at some point in life. It’s inevitable. It will pass. How’s it affecting you? Are you sleeping well? Is your job too stressful?

Friend: I don’t know. I haven’t made any changes to my daily routine and I sleep ok. It’s just a feeling of meaninglessness and complete lack of excitement and hope. I’m just going through the motions of life. I hope it will pass, like you say.

Sagittarius-Virgo: That sounds horrible! We have to do something about it! We have to go out and have a good time and forget about ourselves for a while. Life is meant to be lived to the fullest. I just have to check my calendar and get back to you. I actually have trouble sleeping and made a doctor’s appointment to get a prescription for some sleeping pills.

Friend: Oh, I’m so sorry. I hope they’ll help. Perhaps it’s not good if we stay out late if you have trouble sleeping.

Sagittarius-Virgo: No, don’t be silly, of course we should! I can’t let this hold me back. Although perhaps I shouldn’t stay out past 11. That messes with my sleep cycle.

Friend: Ok…

As with every square relationship, this is a difficult one. The Sagittarius Sun wants to feed the spirit and lift the mood through expressing from a place of higher truth. Life is short and it’s meant to be lived. Humility is not a strong trait of this sign - life is an adventure that has purpose and meaning if one could only manage to catch some wind and fly. The Virgo Moon is analytical in temperament and needs to understand and control all of the practical components that go into making things work in life. The Sagittarius Sun is spontaneous and a bit careless in its self-expression. The Virgo Moon needs to plan and fuss over the details because if the physical processes that are essential to live a functional life aren’t working properly, it will suffer immensely.

Scenario 3 (Sagittarius Mars – Virgo Mars interaction)

Sagittarius: I booked a trip for us next month. I took advantage of the sale.

Virgo: You should’ve consulted me first. We have to plan out how everything is going to work out… I haven’t had the time to sit down and make a plan.

Sagittarius: What do you mean? You’re free the days I booked the trip and we talked about how nice it would be last night.

Virgo: You talked about it, I didn’t object to it but I have so much to do and I can’t take my mind off some things that I have going on right now.

Sagittarius: All the more reason to go, I’d say. Come on, it’ll be fun!

Virgo: I don’t know. I would spend so much time thinking about all of the things that I haven’t sorted out yet… all the loose ends… and I haven’t been to the gym this week, I need to sort out my life properly. I can’t just leave and live in fantasyland.

Sagittarius: You’re never going to have everything sorted out! You just have to accept it!

Virgo: I would like to “accept it” but I don’t want to mess up everything and face terrible decline in my overall health and well-being. I do what I can to maintain stability.

Sagittarius: Well, stressing is not going to improve your health.

Virgo: Don’t you get that adding one more thing – a trip – to my plate will stress me out more than if I could just be left alone and focus on making my day run smoothly?

Sagittarius: You’re such a bore, no wonder that you’re tired of yourself. Well, if you’re not going – I will.

Sagittarius Mars is driven by faith in luck and likes to jump on all the chances that it gets. Virgo Mars is much more “responsible” and has an acute awareness of cause and effect. Perfecting the method of living, which is a daunting task, motivates a Virgo Mars. Sagittarius Mars sees that this is impossible and likes to use momentum to get by. “Booking a trip” because it was something that was briefly mentioned in passing is not unreasonable to this sign. Virgo Mars can’t deal with the spontaneity of Sagittarius and must think things through in order to fit another “component” into daily life.

Note: These are all my personal observations and patterns I've noticed over the years. Take what resonates with you more and leave the rest. Lemme know in the comments if it hits home!

Let's say you have a debilitated Jupiter, or a retrograde Saturn/Jupiter. Doing remedies and such isn't gonna magically fix your problems in life. Don't waste your money, time and effort on these things.

If you have a hard placement in your chart like Jupiter in Capricorn, Venus Rx, or Saturn in the 5th, it doesn't mean your life is gonna be unpleasant. It's a map, and it's our choice to choose which way we wanna go. For example, Saturn in the 5th can indicate no children, child-free, c-section birth, IVF treatments, miscarriages, or childbirth after 30. It won't give the same outcome for everyone.

Rahu (North node) in the 7th doesn't mean you will be married multiple times. Astrology is ancient. You have to remember that being with someone sexually is considered marriage in Vedic astrology. There are tons of debates around whether sex is indicated by the 5th or the 8th in the Vedic circle on other online forums. In ancient texts, if you had sex with someone, that was considered a marriage event, as in those times, they waited until their wedding night. If u already have one or more sexual partners, congrats. You got rid of your bad effects by half. You don't have to deal with a divorce.

Similarly, Saturn in the 7th doesn't always point to an older spouse. It can be in some cases, in other cases it can manifest as no marriage, marriage in mid-late 30s, no interest in marriage, etc. Saturn in the 7th is usually considered a bad position, as in those times, it pointed to a divorce. In the modern era, it can simply mean that the relationship you have with your first sexual partner/relationship will break up or will be temporary. Pre-marital sex wasn't even an option in those times.

Venus in the 8th, as for a general interpretation, means love can be intense and a lot of sexual relationships. Nope, not for everyone. We have to look at other positions as well. For example, if you have Sun in 7th or Saturn in 7th, having Venus in the 8th can actually restrict you or make you suppress your sexual desires in some form. Abstinence either by choice or involuntarily, being too picky, etc can be seen here. You can have Venus, Mars, or the North node in the 8th house and still not experience any of the 8th house themes. Each chart is unique, like your fingerprint.

The 7th house is for 1st marriage, aka the first sexual partner. The 2nd house (8th from the 7th) is for the second marriage, aka your second sexual partner. 9th house is for the 3rd marriage aka your 3rd sexual partner. This system works for people who wait until their wedding night. Not in this modern era. Personally, when I make a marriage prediction report, I apply the double transit method. Saturn and Jupiter both transit or aspect your 1st house or lord, or 7th house or lord. Afterwards, I apply Mars or Venus transits according to one's attraction - men, women, or both. Irrespective of how many partners one had, all these planets aligning in your chart like a Japanese train is a green signal. Still, it points to a sexual event with your FS (aka what ancient texts call marriage).

A retrograde planet in a debilitated sign doesn't mean your life is doomed. Exalted + retrograde = debilitated, and Debilitated + retrograde = exalted. For example, Jupiter Rx in Capricorn is exalted. Saturn Rx in Libra is debilitated. Saturn Rx in Aries is exalted. Jupiter Rx in Cancer is debilitated. Mercury Rx in Virgo is debilitated, but Mercury Rx in Pisces is exalted.

Debilitation doesn't mean you would face difficulties or challenges in that area of life. For example, the Sun in Libra is debilitated. So, all the people in this world born during the Libra season are gonna have a debilitated Sun. Jupiter in Capricorn is debilitated and anyone born during that transit, approximately close to a year, is gonna have a debilitated Jupiter. Venus undergoes transit in Virgo every year for approximately 23 days. Anyone born during the late spring/ early autumn is gonna have a debilitated Venus. I'll make a separate post on exaltation and debilitation.

A pattern I noticed in charts with some harsh placements and aspects is that when these natives moved abroad, or at least by 300 miles/ 482 km, it reduced the 'bad' effects in their chart. Why? Moving can be a chance to break free from negative influences associated with the old location. Not for everyone. This fits people with a retrograde planet in 1st,4th,5th,7th, or 10th house, having 2 or more retrograde planets, 12th house stellium, 1st lord in 12th, debilitated placements, North node in 7th, etc. A minimum of 2 harsh placements has to be taken into account for this.

Comparing celebrity charts or charts of the royal family and politicians to ours won't work. Most of their lifestyles are crafted/messy, and we don't know what's happening in their lives behind the scenes. Analyzing their natal chart is different than comparing it to us to prove a point.

Fadel is multiply disabled. He has thalassemia, a blood disorder, which leaves him incredibly fatigued. The medication he needs costs €400 every month. He has also been in a very serious accident that left his leg paralyzed for a long time, and now he walks with great difficulty.

Over 550 days ago, Fadel's family home was bombed and he was left with iron shrapnel embedded in his body. The medical infrastructure in Gaza has been decimated and he needs to get to a better-resourced hospital to get them surgically removed safely.

He cannot sleep at night because any movement while asleep causes the shrapnel in his body to move, and causes extremely severe pain. He suffers from PTSD, chronic pain, and insomnia from the bombing.

The people of Gaza, Fadel's family included, are going through a severe famine now. They struggle to afford food, let alone his medication. He urgently needs to raise funds for food, medication, travel costs to get to a hospital who can perform surgery, and ultimately for his family to escape this genocide.

Fadel has spent his very limited energy building relationships with strangers in the hopes that enough of us can help him to raise the money he needs. His campaign is vetted by @gazavetters list (#197), @90-ghost, and @a-shade-of-blue.
