Disability pride flag made from cropped NASA APOD images! 🌑 ❤ 💛 ☁️ 💙 💚 🌑
My hot take is that "reclaiming" slurs doesn't actually take power away from bigots it just signals to everyone around you that you think its okay to use slurs therefore they can too and those people include bigots. You're just kind of giving bigots a pass. Supporting bigots in their hobbies. Have you ever tried NOT doing the same thing that bigots do? 🤷♂️ could be good. Could be nice.
I had a discussion with some friends yesterday about the b slur and whether its growing popularity in recent years has changed the way they feel about using it, specifically asking my friends who are not women.
Unsurprisingly, they said they never really consider it as something they shouldn't say unless it's pointed out to them. But they did mention that its ubiquity especially in queer circles has made it feel more "neutral" to them, stripping its context of gendered violence away.
I assume some proponents of "reclaiming" slurs would say that this is the point, but I would counter that this only gives bigots a pass to continue using it because its "fine" now and everyone has "gotten over it."
Except you're leaving people behind. Some people don't want to hear their friends use slurs that their abusers targeted them with. It's always "listen to victims" until its about your favorite slur, then it's "just get over it."
I want everyone who uses the b slur for fun to know that YOU are the reason the r slur is making a come back. You paved this road.
I hope everyone grows tired of being cruel to each other soon

Please refrain from accusing Gazan Twitter accounts of being ‘non-Gazan’ just because they show different locations in their profiles. Many journalists in Gaza have to rely on eSIMs to stay connected, and countless people there depend on outsiders to help amplify their voices and campaigns.
Please refer to Lifeline4Gaza for vetted campaigns
lifeline4gaza gathers links to existing chuffed & gofundme appeals from families, individuals & grassroots community efforts in Gaza.

Israel has violated the "ceasefire" countless times since it began, killing more than 1,200 Palestinians since October 10th, 2025. Attacks on medical warehouses near a hospital happened Saturday. Al Jazeera reported on the attacks here.
If you have the means to help a family in Gaza, please consider helping Nader's. His father is currently fighting cancer, and due to the limited medical resources, it's extremely difficult to treat.

@wilwheaton
What prevents you from sharing our suffering and helping our voices reach others?
What prevents you from donating if you are able to do so?
Is it because you don’t trust me? Or because you think I am a fraud? Or because what we are living through in Gaza has become, for the world, something ordinary that no longer deserves attention?
My family’s fate should not be decided by silence.
I never chose to ask for help or create a fundraising campaign. This was never something I would have accepted for myself. But the war has taken everything from us and left me with the responsibility of caring for my children, leaving me with no other choice.
All I want is a chance to protect my family and give my children the future they deserve. If you are able to help, please do not leave me to face this alone.
@wilwheaton
This week we are excited to begin our celebration of Black History Month! To start, we will be looking at some more recent history, specific
Brenda Fassie was a lesbian South African pop star who gained international fame for her work and for the many media storms that built up around her. She was the niece of the famed activist-turned-president, Nelson Mandela, and held many of the same political stances throughout her life. A number of her songs were even banned in America. She was incredibly influential during her lifetime, exchanging the safety privacy could have offered her for dramatically public life.
