Neither an article or book, but I highly recommend this documentary: The Blood of My Brother, it is an invaluable look into the Iraqi struggle against the u.s. occupation. I first watched it in 2008 and it was life changing, my favorite documentary.

Here is an article on Afghanistan I read in a magazine a really long time ago, I still have that magazine somewhere. In no way do I support the Taliban, but I consider seeing the u.s. lose a war in my lifetime a blessing.

Unsurprisingly, they said they never really consider it as something they shouldn't say unless it's pointed out to them. But they did mention that its ubiquity especially in queer circles has made it feel more "neutral" to them, stripping its context of gendered violence away.

I assume some proponents of "reclaiming" slurs would say that this is the point, but I would counter that this only gives bigots a pass to continue using it because its "fine" now and everyone has "gotten over it."

Except you're leaving people behind. Some people don't want to hear their friends use slurs that their abusers targeted them with. It's always "listen to victims" until its about your favorite slur, then it's "just get over it."
