primroses and the daisies and the bluebells that could never compare to the love they had for each other. But she could feel Holly's hand tense as xe came to an abrupt stop, simply staring at the roses.

"Holly, is everything okay?" Amanda asked, not sure what xe saw in those roses that warranted such an extreme reaction. Holly only kept quiet, xir hands drawing circles in the air. Then xe clapped xir hands, and a blinding light filled the room, enough to make even the hardiest of creatures regret the very day they were born. Amanda screamed in pain as the light seared the backs of her eyes and burned holes into her retina. Then the light faded.

Even in the grayscale of her vison, Amanda could still see the thorny rose monster that now towered above them. Before she even had time to assess it truthfully, Holly yanked her by the arm and dragged her out of the flower shop. "The spell failed, it failed! I'm such a dumbass!" Holly cried, just as the being began snatching victims into its grasp. Amanda could briefly see the thorns on its arms digging their way into the sides of their victims, and she threw up in her mouth a little.

They ran far, far away from the city, deep into the forest, until they finally found a peaceful clearing with a large, sparkling pond in the center. It reflected the golden light from the sunset that filtered through the mat of trees that surrounded them. Amanda and Holly lay down in the grass, not speaking, not moving, too tired to say a word.

Finally, Amanda spoke up. "You gonna deal with this guy the same way you dealt with that eldritch flesh monster from the last city?"

"Yeah," Holly replied, "just hide somewhere like you always do. The monster will come looking for its creator. Just wait."

Eventually, they felt rattle of the beast's earth-shaking footsteps grow stronger and stronger, until they could see its head poking thought the trees. Amanda, lacking in magical ability left to go hide behind a tree, as always, while her girlfriend pulled out all the magical potions and powders xe would need to assasinate the monster.

She could feel the hard, strong breeze of xir essence flowing all around her. Even though she'd been dating Holly for 5 years, that breeze was something she had never gotten used to. It was amazing, how one person could create such a powerful force like that. Holly had this bitchass monster handled, so there was no need to worry about it as she poked her head around the tree just a little bit, just enough to bear witness to such powerful magic.

She saw her pour a deep maroon potion onto her hand, then command the wind to lift it up onto the rose monster, burning a deep hole into its head and causing it to roar in pain. It shook violently, but then it turned in the direction of the tree Amanda was hiding behind.

Or rather, it stared deep into the depths of her soul.

Before she could run fast enough, she felt the sharp, burning, tearing pain of a hundred tiny thorns digging their way through her muscles.

The second to last thing she saw in life was Holly screaming, trying to find the correct potion to help her.

The last thing she saw was the monster's jaw unhinge as it swallowed her whole.

My name is Amanda, and that's how I died. All I long for is the warm embrace of my Holly against my skin. But I can't even have that. I just want to talk to her again.
