The way everyone gets mad at the idea that Kya II could be a Zutara child is actually hilarious. Yes, the character was unconsciously designed as a mix of the two, making her look different from her brothers with their square jaws and hooked noses. Guys, she genuinely looks like a Zutara child. You can’t forbid people from having their own headcanon. These are fictional characters, they don’t exist, so you can do whatever you want with them.

another zutara relic………it’s genuinely so insane……if i had a man and i had to stare at The Scar He Took for His Dear Old Friend every time he took off his shirt, i’d never know peace personally……..people like to undo the gravity of the lightning scene by saying that zuko would have taken it for anyone - thing is, he didn’t……….he took it for KATARA…….he chose KATARA to fight with him………he wanted KATARA by his side and he outran lightning (LIGHTNING…..the SPEED OF LIGHT…….basic PHYSICS) for KATARA and he would have died for KATARA. end of speech thank you

I think the funniest thing that's been said to me by an angry Kata.ang fan who was mad I said it was giving off insecurity that they're constantly blowing up our comment sections and fighting with us on our own posts when their ship is canon is that "Zutara fans are a tiny irrelevant minority that is dying and contributes nothing to the fandom."
Like girl the literal voice actors for both characters were Zutara shippers. The best writers on the show were pushing for Zutara endgame. Even some of the animators were in on the conspiracy to romantically code them in the subtleties of their body language and facial expressions.
They invented ship week. They inspired multiple book series. They are the most popular pairing on the world's largest fanfiction website by a wide margin (for ATLA specifically). Like 80% of the female fans prefer it over the canon pairing.
The creators are so insecure about it that they felt the need to nuke and retcon the canon of Katara and Zuko being best friends because their canon pairing is so weak that it would be blown out of the water by just platonic Zutara because of how much interpersonal chemistry they had in the show compared to their canon pairings. They have to be kept 5 feet apart at all times so that no one gets any ideas because they are THAT insecure over the continued popularity of Zutara.
Totally irrelevant and contributes nothing. Okay. Can only assume they're new here.

The sheer lack of nuance in the atla fandom, especially on twitter, is astounding.
A sixteen year old who was abused by his father his whole life has only recently come to terms with his father’s evil is determined to make amends and stop his father at all costs.
And a TWELVE YEAR OLD comes from a pacifist culture and is now the only left to hold up their pacifist values doesn’t want to kill a man and is desperate to find a compromise.

Katara’s Love Interests
Sometimes I think about how the ATLA fandom would be if Zutara won over Kataang. I don’t mean to patronise KA fans, but I feel like a lot of them simply ship it because “it’s canon”— at least, that’s how a lot of their arguments sound. So, if ZK was canon, would they be supporting ZK wholeheartedly instead of KA? I suppose it’s my own bias, but I can’t quite get myself to believe that people would feel so strongly about a non-canon KA the way people do today about the non-canon ZK. Would KA fans post back-to-back meta essays and deep-dive videos on what could have been for KA, would they be going through interview and extras with a fine ruler in order to find “proof” of KA being considered?
Most importantly, would the state of the shipping war be as bad as it is now, if ZK was canon? Would the drive of “possibility” push KA fans as much as ZK fans are being pushed by it?
I have a lot more thoughts on this, but I don’t have it in me to write a whole essay right now….
