The problem is finding them, since no one's organized them all in one place with covers and episode info. I'm trying to fix that with my new website.

This post talks about a new DM feature in youtube. What it fails to mention is that as part of this new feature is that when you send someone a link to a video, and they open it in the youtube app, they will see who sent them the link. Specifically, your channel name.

If your google account name is your real name, so is your channel name by default.

This means the new default behavior is that everyone you send a youtube link to will see your full name if they open it in the mobile app.

To turn this off:

Go to your youtube app settings

Go to Privacy

Turn off "Channel visibility for shared links"

A reminder that sell-buy dates or best-used-by dates are not the same as expiration dates.

The website puts a link to the USDA site which links to foodsafety dot gov who really wants you to use the app, but you can bypass it.

Also a link to the Canadian government's advisory on best-before dates.

AI is dubious at best in terms of its actual benefit to humanity as a whole. Chatbots are dangerously affirming and often factually incorrect. GenAI is rotting our brains with slop content and emboldening scammers and criminals. Memory and graphic cards manufacturers have abandoned the consumer markets, wildly driving up prices for basic home computers in the name of line-go-up profit. All because a handful of people unleased AI onto the world without anyone's consent, ushering in an age of digital theft, the devaluation of human skill, and allowing corps to kick people to the curb even more than they already do.

And at the foundation of it all are datacenters. If we can stop these, we can at slow AI and maybe give ourselves enough time to at least regulate it.

zoo is looking for public support to stop a proposed data center

They are asking for signatures in a change.org petition (which has reached over 200,000 signatures)

“zoo officials say that the 69,220 square feet data center expected to be built adjacent to the property could cause unknown harm to the park's animals and visitors.”

"The next [data center] could be located just feet away from one of the most fragile and rare collections of animals in the country unless Nashville Zoo supporters and city leaders intervene,"

Nashville Zoo at Grassmere is home to several critically endangered species, such as the Mexican Spider Monkey, the Amur Leopard, and the Sumatran Tiger.

Representatives from the zoo argue that the lack of studies focused on the effects that data centers have on local communities should be enough reason to stop the construction feet away from the conservation park.

"At Nashville Zoo, our top priority is to protect our precious animals and their environment,"

petition reads, "we are equally committed to the health and safety of our visitors, staff, and neighbors living nearby."

“The application for a new commercial building at 648 Grassmere Park was filed earlier this year by Jeremy Dreiling of DC Blox Data Center.

Georgia-based company currently has 23 data centers across the Southeastern United States.

There are currently no restrictions in Nashville regarding large data centers, and local news outlet WSMV4 reports that there are already 26 data centers currently operating throughout the city.”

Exploring good traits gone bad in a novel can add depth and complexity to your characters. Here are a few examples of good traits that can take a negative turn:

1. Empathy turning into manipulation: A character with a strong sense of empathy may use it to manipulate others' emotions and gain an advantage.

2. Confidence becoming arrogance: Excessive confidence can lead to arrogance, where a character belittles others and dismisses their opinions.

3. Ambition turning into obsession: A character's ambition can transform into an unhealthy obsession, causing them to prioritize success at any cost, including sacrificing relationships and moral values.

4. Loyalty becoming blind devotion: Initially loyal, a character may become blindly devoted to a cause or person, disregarding their own well-being and critical thinking.

5. Courage turning into recklessness: A character's courage can morph into reckless behavior, endangering themselves and others due to an overestimation of their abilities.

6. Determination becoming stubbornness: Excessive determination can lead to stubbornness, where a character refuses to consider alternative perspectives or change their course of action, even when it's detrimental.

7. Optimism becoming naivety: Unwavering optimism can transform into naivety, causing a character to overlook dangers or be easily deceived.

8. Protectiveness turning into possessiveness: A character's protective nature can evolve into possessiveness, where they become overly controlling and jealous in relationships.

9. Altruism becoming self-neglect: A character's selflessness may lead to neglecting their own needs and well-being, to the point of self-sacrifice and burnout.

10. Honesty becoming brutal bluntness: A character's commitment to honesty can turn into brutal bluntness, hurting others with harsh and tactless remarks.

These examples demonstrate how even admirable traits can have negative consequences when taken to extremes or used improperly. By exploring the complexities of these traits, you can create compelling and multi-dimensional characters in your novel.

this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together

and then in the end you put it together like this!!

and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy

Whilst it's correct that tumblr has no control over the ID thing, what they do have control over is their mature content filters. If you weren't before, now is the time to get really fucking insistent that they fix their extremely broken mature content filters.

Politely.

The combination of the new ID verification requirements, and the extremely janky mature content filters, means that tumblr is now unusable for me. Any posts that get tagged in error as mature will be completely blocked out, and I won't be able to see them.

It would be helpful if you had a function that allows the userbase to report incorrectly applied maturity filters for staff to remove, so that I can continue to enjoy my favourite site. Otherwise, I will be forced to leave the site until the ID legislation in my country is repealed/reversed."

But this is an opportunity to present a solution to something that's been pissing us off for a while now, and it gives us, the userbase, a better opportunity to combat report bombing of trans folks and black folks. I think we're morally obligated to push for this.
