i mean. you’re right. but this post is about standards, and the greyhound standard calls for the dogs to be lean and well-muscled, not skin-and-bones frail 😅 a frail, malnourished dog isn’t a dog who can sprint after game, a lean, muscular dog is. credit where credit is due, the greyhound standard is pretty function-focused for the most part.

a perfectly healthy greyhound is always going to look a bit skinny next to a lot of other breeds, just because of the sheer longness of them (long dog is fast dog, fast dog get rabbit). that can definitely be a bit shocking!

but. i mean. if you compare them with other dogs at a healthy weight, you can kinda see that it’s the same concept, just stretched out, haha

#shrug #greyhounds just aren’t a breed where i see any well-being being impaired by their structure #outside of larger dogs being more prone to bone cancers #which is definitely a conversation to have #but unrelated to sighthound leanness

when i was younger i didn’t understand why i wasn’t allowed to name the family dogs. my mom would always name them, and she would pick nice normal dog names like Rex, Daisy, Oliver, Maya etc. i was always a little disappointed, but whatever

anyway. then i got my first dog as an adult and proceeded to name him Pallando the Blue. so like i kinda get it now

#i think i did a fantastic job don’t get me wrong #he’s the bluest dog around like cmon #but i see why she wasn’t so on board with my ideas lol
