🎉🎉ITS NOT BLOAT🎉🎉
they’re doing a few more tests while he’s out to see if they can find anything alarming that would have cause his initial symptoms, but fuck i’m so glad it’s not bloat
his vitals were good, and the vet is saying that he is stable at the moment while they tend to some critical patients. not much more info than that, as he’s really fighting sedation atm so they haven’t been able to get x rays
at the emergency vet with pallando for what i really fucking hope is my paranoia and not bloat. fuck

Do you have any recommendations for training information/books/etc that you'd suggest specifically for a first time dog (and first time puppy in particular) owner?
Trying to learn and read as much as I can so I'll be ready when the time comes :) It's hard when one is very new to sort the good from the bad!
Thanks!
For puppies I quite liked Social, Civil, and Savvy Laura VanArendonk Baugh. I think Meet Your Dog by Kim Brophey, What Dogs Want by Mat Ward and Level Up Your Dog Training by Natalie Bridger Watson are good for first time dog owners.
Some of my favourite general recommendations would be Ethics and Ethology for a Happy Dog by Anders Hallgren, Canine Enrichment for the Real World by Allie Bender and Emily Strong, Making Dogs Happy by Dr Melissa Starling & Prof Paul McGreevy, Doggie Language by Lili Chin and On Talking Terms with Dogs by Turid Rugaas.

On Friday, June 19th, around 2am, my heart dog Vida had a pretty severe seizure… Kassaundra Burrow needs your support for Standing with Vida
Getting Vida the MRI she needs is going to be a big financial struggle, especially after the financial hit we already took this year from my car getting wrecked. Any shares or donations will be more appreciated than you can imagine.
Vida is scheduled for an MRI consult and MRI on July 15th & 16th at the Kansas State University Veterinary Hospital
Going the 8hrs out of state is significantly cheaper, and faster (places around here are booking into August) so I've adjusted the GFM accordingly
Vida's fundraiser is 24% funded and we have 11 days until her MRI - please share or donate if possible, it would be so so appreciated.
Vida had her MRI on Wednesday at Kansas State University because they rearranged their schedule to get her MRI done then instead of the consult Wednesday and the MRI Thursday to reduce her stress since she doesn't like the vet. Unfortunately, it was not good news. Vida has a 12mm x 14.3mm x 13.3mm meningioma (cancerous tumor) on her olfactory nerve pressing into her brain. The vet said it is a very slow growing type of cancer and that it wouldn't likely grow large enough to kill her before old age does, and the only thing it causes is seizures which can usually be controlled with medication, so we can treat the symptoms and ignore it, or I can talk to CSU about doing radiation or surgery. He said the big downside of the type of radiation that she'd need is that it can cause death and damage of healthy brain tissue, which can cause rapid neurological degeneration, so he doesn't necessarily think it's the best call, but since he's not an oncologist he can't make that recommendation and I need to talk to CSU. Her GoFundMe is still going on, and as we explore our options, any money and reblogs will help, thank you.
Just heard back from CSU regarding their clinical studies on brain tumors. The only one she is eligible for is the surgical one, and it's just for a slightly subsidized surgery, so we would still need to come up with $7000-$10,000 for her surgery. Any assistance in getting to this goal would be appreciated. Thank you. https://www.gofundme.com/f/standing-with-vida-after-her-seizure?
Vida has an appointment with CSU neurology on August 10th to discuss what the best course for treatment for her brain cancer is.
someday we will think of dogs as types, loosely sorted into groupings based on purpose & broad physical traits, and nothing will be siloed in closed studbooks in a bunch of separate breed clubs and kennel clubs and the concept of purity will be utterly irrelevant 🙏 inshallah and the creek don't rise
