#the reason that lab safety regulations are the way they are is because literally all chemists are like this #as in 100% of them #no exceptions (via @prokopetz)
I'm a chemist and I have actually dissolved copper with nitric acid many times. It does make a pretty solution, but it also creates a lot of heat and the reddish fumes, known as NOx, are very dangerous. And yeah, nitric acid will act upon your skin and clothes too. Gloves, safety glasses, and fume hoods are important.
I'm just saying, if you're going to worldbuild magic being a "raw, primal force, akin to and interweaving with nature itself" you gotta explain to me why animals don't use it
I know the normal answer is "they just aren't smart enough for it" but idk I've seen enough media where a character uses a spell in a moment of brain-off panic ilI feel like animals could probably stumble into a spell or two like, accidentally
Also how funny would it be to see a completely normal regular bear cast magic missile outta nowhere
Also there is no way ravens wouldn't figure out spells, tbh
They're smart fuckin birds, I believe in them
Either through observing or just figuring shit out ravens could 100% learn how to cast spells I'm sure of it
Dogs can also cast Magic Missile but every time they do the projectile is shaped like a bone or a stick and they chase after it
group of wizards who ask this in-universe, and after extensive study learn to their surprise that animals are casting spells all the time, just that their magic is so fundamental as to be unrecognizable to humans. turns out the only reason acorns grow on trees is because squirrels keep wishing for them.
I still find it pretty funny that in fallout 3 you can get your karma down by just opening Moriartyβs terminal over and over again.
The slavers at paradise falls have heard of me. Iβm the guy that opens peopleβs computers over and over again without asking first.
Butch wonβt be my companion. Heβs like youβre too intense. You mustβve turned on that computer like 50 times in a row last time.
My forbidden computer touching ways have caught up with me.
The reason Iβm doing this in the first place is that a lot of evil karma options in fallout 3 are just inconvenient. Like I could go out of my way to blow up a city or I could not blow up a city and get a much more convenient free house and keep access to their merchants.
So in order to keep getting the full evil karma experience, every time I do something convenient or utilitarian that raises my karma I go back to Moriartyβs Saloon and just open his terminal over and over again.
Thus, my good boy points are eliminated through repeated computer touching and the regulators here are hunting me down for looking at Moriartyβs personal data a hundred times in a row.
Whatβs really funny about lowering your karma this way is that after you do a major good Karma action and listen to the radio, the radio DJ Three Dog will be like this horrible fucker from vault 101 we all hate him so much you know that guy? He did another fucking thing. He saved a thousand orphans.
a picture thatβs worth a thousand words

Gabriel FaurΓ© - Pavane, Op. 50 1887
Gabriel Urbain FaurΓ© was a French composer, organist, pianist and teacher. He was one of the foremost French composers of his generation, and his musical style influenced many 20th-century composers. Among his best-known works are his Pavane, Requiem, Sicilienne, nocturnes for piano and the songs "AprΓ¨s un rΓͺve" and "Clair de lune". Although his best-known and most accessible compositions are generally his earlier ones, FaurΓ© composed many of his most highly regarded works in his later years, in a more harmonically and melodically complex style.
The Pavane in Fβ― minor, Op. 50, is a short work written in 1887. It was originally a piano piece, but is better known in FaurΓ©'s version for orchestra and optional chorus. It was first performed in Paris in 1888, becoming one of the composer's most popular works. It is titled after the slow processional Spanish court dance of the same name.
FaurΓ© composed the orchestral version at Le VΓ©sinet in the summer of 1887. He envisaged a purely orchestral composition, using modest forces, to be played at a series of light summer concerts conducted by Jules DanbΓ©. After FaurΓ© opted to dedicate the work to his patron, Countess Γlisabeth Greffulhe, he felt compelled to stage a grander affair and at her recommendation he added an invisible chorus to accompany the orchestra (with additional allowance for dancers). The words were inconsequential verses, Γ la Verlaine, on the romantic helplessness of man, written by the Countess's cousin, Robert de Montesquiou.
From the outset, the Pavane has enjoyed immense popularity, whether with or without chorus. With choreography by LΓ©onide Massine a ballet version entered the repertoire of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in 1917, alternatively billed as Las Meninas or Les Jardins d'Aranjuez, danced to music by not only FaurΓ© but also Maurice Ravel and others. For Massine, FaurΓ©'s music had "haunting echoes of Spain's Golden Age" parallelling the formality and underlying sadness he found in the paintings of VelΓ‘zquez. Some critics found the ballet pallid, but Diaghilev retained a fondness for the piece, and kept it in the company's repertoire until the end of his life.
