maomao is my favorite "not like other girls" style protagonist bc for one shes a girls girl through and through. to the bone. and two she's just a weird little freak. absolute lunatic. they have the whole "omg she's actually beautiful and everyone falls for her when she's all made up" trope but the punchline is that she does not fucking want to look like that. she actively puts dirt on her face every day bc she does not want to be perceived as attractive (mostly out of fear of being used for sex work though at the same time she has the utmost respect for women who do sex work like she grew up in a brothel those are her sisters). she's Sherlock level smart and solves every mystery so fast but goes "well thats none of my business. anyway back to testing poisons on myself" she has the 2nd most powerful guy in the nation head over heels in love with her and is like "man this guy is weird around me what's his deal. I guess he's fine though because he gives me rare medicines and has no dick" fucking ICON i love her. also she once slapped someone so hard they fell on the floor. 10/10

As much as the âAftg is badly written/nora is a bad writerâ jokes can be funny (Iâve even occasionally made them myself) I think the much better phrased version (that I think is what most people, hopefully, actually mean) is that Aftg is not written for most people. It is not bad writing that so many crazy insane things happen and it doesnât seem real, it is not bad writing that the MC is often inaccurate or guided by his own ideas and prejudices, it is not bad writing that the characters leave out important details. It is just something you are not used to. That most people arenât used to, and thatâs okay. Aftg is not written for what I like to refer to as âthe general publicâ. It is written for a subsection of those people that have the ability to adapt to new ideas. I also think that just because you do not like something does not mean itâs bad. Iâve recently seen a lot more people make this joke/say this about specific lines or scenes where (especially in the main trilogy) the MC focuses on the seemingly unimportant. Which it may be unimportant, to you. Itâs clearly important to the MC though, and that shows you something about that character, which makes it important.
I think so many people have adapted to the omniscient POV that weâve lost a little bit of media literacy

People, Claudia was a serial killer who kept body part souvenirs. She watched the Paris coven torturing humans on stage and wanted to join up.
Of course sheâs in hell.
In any universe where hell based on deeds on earth exists, Claudia would go to hell. Every character on this show would go to hell.
i like the idea i've been seeing circulating that the reason claudia's âstuckâ in a âspidery-ass nowhereâ and can't find madeline is because she's in purgatory (the fixation with telling louis to burn her diaries and her dress makes a lot of sense with her wanting to sever any remaining connection) and i love the hopeful twist of believing that being finally able to express her rage at louis and lestat is what will finally get her out of there and i want to add that it's so perfect that we're never going to be able to know for sure. if claudia's free it means she's free from the story. it means she's free from all of them, but also from all of us.
I fucking love that Claudia literally made up the train story. There wasnât any part of truth in it. I didnât think theyâd go there because of how much theyâve softened all of these characters, but they really committed.
And guess what? It didnât change a thing about how Louis and Lestat treated her. Sheâs still a victim. Still a bandaid for a shitty marriage. Still a roof shingle that flew off of their house. They still doomed her to an eternity of misery.
I do think Lestat saw her the most clearly though. He saw how monstrous she could be and loved her all the more for it, not in spite of it. Stained Glass Eyes, while self-indulgent, is more about how he thinks she might react to him rather than purely his own grief. He was complicit in killing her, after all. It doesnât mean he canât love her. Love between vampires can be countless things.
I know people post this quote a lot, but itâs a really good one.
