FINALLY! I've been waiting for someone to pick up on this!

Both 'dw i' and 'dwi' are reduced forms of the actually proper 'rydw i'. In formal writing, I'll stick to 'rydw i', but colloquially I'd never say 'rydw i' or even 'dw i' - it just sounds unnecessarily clunky to me! Why shorten it from three to two syllables when I can squeeze it down to just one with the wonderfully snappy 'dwi'?

'Dw i' is what's usually taught to those learning Welsh as a new language; probably because it's a nice middle ground between proper and colloquial.

So while 'dwi'n' is informal and technically incorrect, it's also the most natural of the three, which is why I prefer to use it when translating text posts. However, I definitely use 'rydw i' sometimes in my translations - just never 'dw i'! Probably because it just doesn't sound natural to me, a fluent Gog. If I'm going to be formal, I might as well be correct, too!

But, at the end of the day, when it comes to writing colloquially on the internet, all three forms are completely and utterly acceptable. I just sack off 'dwi' when it comes to my official translations in my day job!

I'm very glad that people question my word choices! At the end of the day, I am but a funny little gimmick blog, and not a primary learning source. Just because I'm a fluent Welsh speaker doesn't mean I'm an authority; in fact, Welsh is one of those fun languages where the more fluent you are, the more 'technically incorrectly' you speak - especially up in the depths of north Wales!
