Yesterday the last day of #hannukah was celebrated at the @jewishmuseumldn alongside a ceremony marking 80 years since what is now known as the #kindertransport took place; a rescue operation organised by a range of charities which allowed 10,000 mostly Jewish children to escape from occupied Europe and come to Britain. Five of the ‘kinder’ attended, now in their 80’s & 90’sincluding #judithkerr (author of the tiger who came to tea) and Tom Karen, famous for designing the #raleighchopper. Also Bea Green (pictured) who I had the pleasure of talking to at length last week, and whose portrait I will paint at the museum. Her father, Dr. Michael Siegel was the subject of this famous photograph from 1933, an early warning of the nazification of Germany. I’d suggest you visit this exhibition; These stories are just within living memory and more relevant now than ever. I’ll be at the museum on the 16th and 18th of this month between 1 & 4pm, and at dates over the following two months as Artist in residence. more details to come.
