that is a super valid question @umanta so yes you are absolutely correct it is a sports fiction story with a teammate romance there is just also a mafia bird cult torture facility in west virginia that is masquerading as a college sports team and several people die horribly as a result and the main character spends most of the series convinced he is about to be assassinated but he just loves playing sports so damn much that he decides he's not going to let the imminent threat of murder stop him from trying to win championships with the power of friendship

#the POV character is often kind of blase about the whole “on the run from the mob” element and just kind of accepts death and is like#well im gonna die anyway so i might as well also win championships on my way out! and then mostly thinks about the sports and his not-bf#and treats a lot of the book like more of a found family sports fiction with both romance and occasionally murder interfering with practice#normal college athlete behavior honestly
