life advice:
never say anything to a penguin that the penguin has not already said to you
this reads like a shitpost but iâm actually 100% serious. i was walking along the side of the harbour this evening, just after all the penguins had come in from the ocean to nest. there was one penguin right by the footpath, and when it saw me it kept saying âhÜÜâ. so i said âhÜÜâ right back. it seemed to like that, and we had a lovely conversation where we just kept saying âhÜÜâ to each other. i crouched down about two metres away from it, and we kept talking, and it actually moved towards me a little bit, seeming to prefer my company to the heartless embrace of the sea. but then i made the mistake of trying to change things up. i said âhwehâ, which was something that a previous penguin said to me, and this penguin hated it, and fucked right off. never said another word to me. i felt so rude.
I keep imagining this from the penguinâs point of view:
âGustav, my friend, why so glum?â
The penguin in question looked up from his half-eaten sprat, shaking his head in disgust.
âNot glum, Sebastian. Affronted, outraged - I had the most perturbing encounter with one of the Beakless Ones.â
Sebastian nodded solemnly. âYes, they are often perturbing. What happened, my friend?â
Gustav sighed heavily, looking up to the sky and holding his flippers wide, as if to ask the gods âwhy?â, before mournfully retelling his experience, âI was on the beach where the Beakless sometimes wander, contemplating names for this yearâs chicks, when one of them approached. It seemed harmless enough to greet - theyâre cute, in a strange, bald and flat-faced way, are they not?â
âOh Gustav, you kind-hearted fool.â
âSuch a fool, I am!â Gustavâs moans had gathered a small crowd already - the only thing penguins love more than a bellyful of fish, is a story. A good storyteller was always guaranteed a warm spot to huddle in the winter, surrounded by bored friends longing for entertainment.
âWhat did it do, Gustav? Did it kick you?â
âNo! When it got close, I called out to it, âhello, friend!â. It stopped and returned the greeting - awkwardly, but it was rather sweet, like a chick learning itâs first chirps. âHollow fren,â it said back to me. I was charmed, but not wanting it to learn poor pronunciation, I repeated the greeting, and so did it! Getting clearer each time, till it could almost pass for a true penguin itself.â
âGustav is a wonderful teacher,â Adelina, his mate, stated with a proud nod of her lovely blue head. âYou remember how well our chicks could enunciate, before they even caught their first fish.â
âBut what of it, Gustav? What happened to sour this experience so?â
âWe went back and forth, till I was satisfied. It lowered itself near the ground, and I moved closer, carefully, not wanting to alarm it. I was just about to tell it how pleased I was, that it learning so quickly, when all of a sudden, it looked me right in the eye and said âFuck off, freak.ââ
There were avian gasps all around.
âOh no!â
âHow rude!â
âI was so appalled, I could not bring myself to even chide it.â Gustav bowed his head in shame. âI turned and left without another word.â
âIt said that to you? Oh dear.â Sebastian tilted his head in a piercing glare towards one of their fellows, focusing on the only one who was slapping his sides and chortling. âBjĂśrn, you scoundrel! What have I told you about yelling obscenities at the Beakless?â
BjĂśrn cackled and bobbed his head in defiance. âHow was its enunciation, Gustav? You soft-hearted buffoon!â
now thatâs a fine addition to my post

My super advanced mapmaking technique - a handful of dice makes the map nice
interesting method
My question is do the die affect topography any or just set the borders?
I imagine itâs up to the person making the map. But maybe the more dice in a single spot, the more mountainous or forested the area. Maybe choose a few dice to be deemed cities, and some dice for ruins.
Maybe let the dice choose, like a nat 20 would be the world capital, and 10âs would be mountains or something like that.
1-5: Plains and fields
6-8: Forests
9-11: Mountains
12-14: Tundras and snow covered lands
15-17: Farms and towns
18-19: Larger cities
20: Capitals and castles
what would happing if all the dice landed on a 20?
then you have a very busy continent
not all of those are d20s though, so youâd have to come up with another method for the other ones
Adjusted for all dice you might have
D20
1-5: Plains and fields

so somebody wanted to know what does the woman on the background says. Well, here you are, enjoy)
Womans voice offscreen: Stepa, how much toys do you have! Stepa, you are so generous! You give me this teddy bear? Stepa! Do you not regret giving it? Your favorite toy? Stepa! Good boy, give it to me. Good boy, youâre so smart, so smart. Give it to me please, give it, Stepa [takes the toy] thank you, oh thank you, oh thank you Stepa, and of course⌠[Stepa starts to wave his paws] Yes, of course, you are the most kind bear. [Camera zooms on other toys] And what else do you have where, is there anything else Stepa? Stepochka, where is another teddy bear, Stepa? Where is another teddy bear? Stepochka, give me another teddy bear
Reblogging this version for the translation! I also wanted to say since I saw a lot of people concerned about it in the comments that I did some research and it seems that Stepa lost his teeth naturally and did not have them pulled out by his owners. For one thing when they rescued him he was so sick that his teeth were apparently black and in horrible shape, and for another thing he is very old, at least 23 years while bears only live to be 25 (source here). His family has also said in multiple interviews that he has never bitten them and I donât think they would bring that up if he never had any teeth to begin with (example here [bonus: this interview includes cute pictures of him playing with his family]). If you google image search âStepan the bearâ you can even find some older pictures of him from before all of his teeth fell out. Just thought Iâd let everyone know so we can all enjoy these cute videos without worrying that that heâs been mistreated!
HAVE YALL SEEN THIS????

ALICE ROOSEVELT WAS HARDCORE. âShe was known as a rule-breaker in an era when women were under great pressure to conform. The American public noticed many of her exploits. She smoked cigarettes in public, swore at officials, rode in cars with men, stayed out late partying, kept a pet snake named Emily Spinach (Emily as in her spinster aunt and Spinach for its green color) in the White House, and was seen placing bets with a bookie.Â
So what Iâm reading here is, she was a Roosevelt?
Well I have a new hero.
Her whole wikipedia article is gold
âWhen her father was governor of New York, he and his wife proposed that Alice attend a conservative school for girls in New York City. Pulling out all the stops, Alice wrote, âIf you send me I will humiliate you. I will do something that will shame you. I tell you I will.ââ
âHer father took office in 1901 following the assassination of President William McKinley, Jr. in Buffalo (an event that she greeted with âsheer rapture.â)â
âDuring the cruise to Japan, Alice jumped into the shipâs pool fully clothed, and coaxed a congressman to join her in the water. (Years later Bobby Kennedy would chide her about the incident, saying it was outrageous for the time, to which the by-then-octogenarian Alice replied that it would only have been outrageous had she removed her clothes.â
âShe was dressed in a blue wedding dress and dramatically cut the wedding cake with a sword (borrowed from a military aide attending the reception)â
âWhen it came time for the Roosevelt family to move out of the White House, Alice buried a Voodoo doll of the new First Lady, Nellie Taft, in the front yard.â
âLater, the Taft White House banned her from her former residenceâthe first but not the last administration to do so. During Woodrow Wilsonâs administration (from which she was banned in 1916 for a bawdy joke at Wilsonâs expense)âŚâ
âAs an example of her attitudes on race, in 1965 her African-American chauffeur and one of her best friends, Turner, was driving Alice to an appointment. During the trip, he pulled out in front of a taxi, and the driver got out and demanded to know of him, âWhat do you think youâre doing, you black bastard?â Turner took the insult calmly, but Alice did not and told the taxi driver, âHeâs taking me to my destination, you white son of a bitch!â
âTo Senator Joseph McCarthy, who had jokingly remarked at a party âHereâs my blind date. I am going to call you Aliceâ, she sarcastically said âSenator McCarthy, you are not going to call me Alice. The trashman and the policeman on my block call me Alice, but you may not.â
