@buttspocks as far as that goes, my thinking is that this hypothetical alternate universe would lean way further into vulcans being less "human" than star trek usually does. So he'd still be humanoid, but feel extremely removed from Jim (and Bones) enough that the gap between them would feel similar to that in phm. :)

@ninjabunny a fully vulcan Spock who has actually managed to forget his mother. She's a vague memory now, long dead or maybe just light-years away. And then...and then another human - and his mother comes storming back into recollection, visceral and painful as if she never left. And she brings Spock's humanity with her.

If Spock was alone for that many years would he forget how to speak English? And maybe the memories of his mother is what allows him to regain that language? But until then they're trying to communicate in broken Vulcan, English, and sign language?
