What an incredible day and incredible community. Over 300 people through @rockypointcrossfit doors and almost 150 athletes throwing down from 12+ different gyms and variety of skills and levels. Although it would be impossible to track the hours put in to coordinating a season and event like this, it's even more impossible to give enough thanks to everyone else that helped make it happen. We'll be doing official thank yous and shout outs to all of our sponsors and volunteers over the next few days on @canaffleague, but now that I've finally almost recovered from the day I just want to say thank you to everyone who takes part in the CAL every season as workers, athletes, or especially my #rathletes and volunteers <3 The goal of the Canadian Affiliate League is not to be the biggest or best competition, but to unite our rapidly growing community and break down the walls between the different gyms in our region. 24 workouts in 24 hours raising money for @cf24hrs and Special Olympics Canada on Oct 22. This was during last year's max clean and jerk somewhere around 12 hours and 12 workouts in. There isn't a cause I could more strongly believe in. @cf24hrs raises funds for Special Olympics Canada to help ensure that everyone has access to sports and can reap the physical, emotional, and mental benefits of activity & play. Last year we raised over $10,000 at @raincityathls. This year we're back on October 22 to do a workout every hour, on the hour, for 24 hours. Not everyone does all 24 workouts... except on team #allofthewods. Back to the grind. We're 3 days into #raincityrealfood and it's become a very quick reminder of how brutal of a drug food is. Consuming over 3k calories a day of clean (no gluten/grains/dairy) food and I lay in bed at night feeling like I'm dying of starvation wanting an insulin hit. The first 7-10 days of a challenge like this is all about regaining our insulin sensitivity aka kicking the sugar/carb addiction. #carbflu Im already sleeping better and feeling more motivated across the board! Thank God for the @raincityathls crew keeping eachother on track. A little snatch work here. Triples doubles and singles up to an easy 185 and a 205 miss. I spent more time in the gym in the photos on the left than I do now. 30min to an hour of 'fat burning cardio' (while fasted of course) first thing in the am, then my weights (curls for the girls) in the evening... My favorite part of transformations like this is how different your face can look! I'm not saying if you're overweight you can't be attractive; but here's proof that you never know what's hiding underneath... that and it doesn't take as much time as you'd think to find out :) #trainsmart @raincityathls I hate the words fat, skinny, or over or under weight - the only thing that should matter is are you healthy and happy. Sometimes on the weekends we throw around random heavy objects... #stonesandstrength The beauty of focusing on a functional strength and condition program (whether #crossfit or not) means I can show up to a competition like this (#strongman) *relatively* unprepared. I had never touched a circus dumbbell in my life, but knowing that I am competent across all 10 domains of fitness (speed, strength, stamina, flexibility, coordination, etc) means that I can confidently walk up odd objects or tasks, and give them a go. #preparedforlife This is what I tell all our @raincityathls clients. We want you to be comfortable and confident in your body and know that if there's a task in front of you, you have the capacity and competency to at least give it a try (if not crush it). This applies to all aspects of life, whether mental or physical. Huge shout out to @ryu_apparel for letting me write an article about not training... They reached out to me for an inspiring article about exercise at a time when life had pulled me the farthest I'd ever been from healthy habits or regularly exercising. With most brands I would have asked to delay it until I was back into my routine, but knowing how supportive RYU has always been of me, I instead asked if I could write about the other side of things. Sometimes the only way to truly prioritize our health long term, is by not prioritizing our health in the short term. "I’m not saying if life throws you off the horse it’s ok to give up, but sometimes the best thing to do is accept that we must walk beside and lead the horse, before we jump back on." A huge thank you and shout out to everyone, especially my @raincityathls family (and real family), for understanding and supporting me through a time where life just kept throwing lemons.
