It is so funny, actually, that the Doctor is constantly bemoaning humanity for believing in curses, ghosts, prophecies, superstitions, and all manner of supernatural nonsense, because my sibling in Rassilon, you come from the Superstition Planet. You have spent your entire life surrounded by sentient omens, haunted houses that are actually haunted, cursed objects that are genuinely cursed, prophecies with an alarmingly high success rate, gods that are real, and devils that are usually aliens but occasionally are just the Devil. Humans are over here going, "Maybe this old castle is haunted," while the Doctor is rolling their eyes despite coming from the civilization where the correct response is statistically much more likely to be, "Yes, and the haunting has probably developed temporal sentience." If anything, humans are remarkably restrained given the evidence available to the Doctor.

I just finished Planet of the Spiders and. im. not. okay. How did we get here. 3 went to Metebelis III and got this beautiful-looking blue crystal. He gave it to Jo as a wedding present. He gave it to her, this wonderful girl he didn't like at first but got attached to. They departed in silence, knowing they wouldn't see each other again (for a long time).
And now, this crystal that he gave her turns out to be dangerous. Taking that crystal in the first place turned out to be disastrous. So then he goes to hand it over to the Great One which destroys everything and everything is alright again, except it isn't, cause he's dying. He's dying because of his own mistake.
And it's almost a callback to what the Time Lords did to him. In his second body he was forced to regenerate against his will. His body was tampered with against his will. And it happens again with the Great One, who makes him move against his will, and says, "Is that fear I can feel in your mind? You are not accustomed to feeling frightened, are you, Doctor?" He's being used again, and it frightens him enormously, to the point there's a tear in his eye. It's not only hurting his pride to be used like this, but it's an exact reminder that it has happened before.
But then, as he dies, where does the TARDIS bring him? Where does the TARDIS bring her thief? She brings him home. "The TARDIS brought me home."
He was exiled to Earth alongside his forced regeneration, and he was very much against it. He hated being stuck in one place, he was a Time Lord with a TARDIS that could go anywhere in time and space and his freedom is taken away from him. But he starts to enjoy it more. ("That's where you met me." "That's right. That's where I met you. And that alone made the exile worth while, Miss Grant.")
Earth became more than the planet he was stuck on, the planet he constantly saved. Earth meant Jo. Earth meant the Brigadier and even Sergeant Benton. Jo saved him. Sarah Jane saved him. Earth became home. He saved his home, at the cost of regenerating.
I feel like what a lot of people don't get about Foursarah is that they treat it like every other mainstream het ship. the fundamental point is that the Doctor is suddenly a creepy fucking clown thing that stares at people with his autistic eyes and Sarah is a seemingly normal woman who happens to be interested in weird bullshit, but it turns out no she's actually deeply attracted to the Doctor when he looks like a scarecrow who made a wish to become a real boy.
I'm mixed on their relationship in School Reunion (along with how nuwho handles most classic relationships) but Sarah is evidently a bit let down the Doctor looks like a normal human man now. The hottest person in the universe to her is a sweaty, overdressed Tom Baker. She's down bad. the Doctor is too busy being the Doctor and fucking around to notice
is it really ooc for sarah to be hypnotized? it happens to her almost every episode
Oh I don't think it's out of character for Sarah to be hypnotized! What she gets off on is her business. I think Sarah Jane Smith is out of character in the Masque of Mandragora specifically because the Doctor realizing she's been hypnotized at all hinges on the fact that she suddenly starts asking him why she can understand the Italians, which means Sarah would never have asked about that at all if she weren't hypnotized. I take issue with the insinuation that "incuriosity" would be a core character trait of Sarah's when Sarah is literally a journalist. It just feels like they wrote her to be stupider over time
The core character trait of Sarah Jane Smith is that she's so nosy everyone hates it and wants to kill her about it

“the fifth doctor is so boring” the fifth doctor is an old man who woke up as a young man. a man who remembers what it’s like to be old and aspires to reach that level of maturity again to be taken seriously in his new body, but who can’t because he has an almost pubescent temperament. he tries and fails to be the doctor because he is simply ill-equipped on a mechanical basis and his entire character arc is built on the tragedy of losing a child who was in his care. this permeates his development to the point that he sacrifices himself for the life of one girl he barely knew.
THE FIFTH DOCTOR IS NOT BORING! he is a tragic hero.

Doctor Who is a great fandom to be in on tumblr because you'll see spoilers everywhere but not a single one of them is coherent unless you've seen the episode anyway. like oh the glorbon is secretly trying to ensnare humanity in a giant crab trap? the new companion Jiminy Pubble turned out to be the latest regeneration of the Doctor's old enemy The Fuckwizard? thanks I know less than I did before
i have to post my favourite goodreads review that i saw before i started reading that convinced me this was going to be the best book i’ve read in years
literally this but i give it 5 stars. he’s exactly right except he left out the part where it owns
the thing with doctor who is that even if it gets cancelled (which it hasn't yet, contrary to what people seem to think) we can just go back to the start of the show and watch it all again, and by the time we've done that it'll probably have gotten revived
also frankly i'm sick of this chibnall revisionism just because rtd2 is ass. "chibnall era was always so good and you guys were haters" no. no it wasn't and it still isn't.
even if rtd2 is worse than the chibnall era (i'm not sure i agree with this, at least not yet) that doesn't make the chibnall era good. 13 is still extremely out of character. the "fam" is still made up of cardboard cutouts of people. chibnall still introduced dhawan master, supposedly placed him after missy in the timeline, and undid a 3 season long character arc for the master in one fell swoop. the politics in chibnall's era were still dogshit. two writers can be bad at writing at the same time. two different creative teams can fumble the bag on doctor who.
there isn't one "villain" of doctor who. i know it would be easy if there was. but there isn't.
it's been a while since chibnall's era but you chibnall fans need to understand that even if you personally enjoyed it, it was still shit. the pro amazon episode and revealing the master's race to the nazis scene and "actually graham trying to comfort you about your cancer makes me feel kind of weird so fuck you" scene all still happened. this is out of character writing. that's not the doctor.
every post criticising the chibnall era for a specific character treating another character terribly/having characterisation that should've gone to another character commits the understandable mistake of assuming any of these characters have characterisation or relationships developed to any meaningful extent

I am so tired. SO tired of chibnall revisionism. Which is not to say I think there's nothing good in chibnalls era - there's so much cool original ideas in it, which is what makes it so sincerely screaming frustrating to watch because every cool, original thing it does is immediately undermined either by chibnalls complete inability to write or chibnalls shockingly obvious racism. I am in AGONY right now. I am in doctor who HELL going through three entire seasons of this shit!!! I understand how frustrating it must be to hear "thirteen was good but her writing was so bad" but well maybe the writing shouldn't be so bad then! Maybe the thirteenth Doctor deserves a good script!
the politics in chibnall era dw era so far are blowing my mind... it's incredibly diverse casting but everyone is literally a cop. a brown (queer?? i'm not there yet) muslim woman companion is a cop. a cop saved her life when she was a teen and she was inspired to also become a cop. the plot revolves around a married gay couple in one episode but one is a cop. space amazon isn't bad, the actual villain is an activist who went undercover as an employee, because they have to resort to replacing packages with bombs to prove that space amazon is bad. space luxury resorts that destroy planets so they can buy them up for cheap and build on them aren't bad, the actual villain is a journalist/terrorist who only wants to blow up the space resort because the manager is her mom and they have a bad relationship
