BâTselem â The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories strives to end Israelâs occupation, recognizing that
âAs a man, Iâm a big dude, but not outside the norm for such things. I am just barely fat enough to shop at what I call The Big Fat Tall Guy Store, and can sometimes find my size in your usual boy-upholstery emporia. Major clothing labels, like Levi Strauss, make nice things in my size, and I am never forced to wear anything that appears to have been manufactured at Mendel the Tentmakerâs House oâ Fashion. (Although those things do exist for men, too. Those terrycloth shirts with the waistbands? Oy.) I can order extra salad dressing or ice cream or anything else in a restaurant and have it arrive without comment; I can eat it in public without anyone taking a bit of notice, even if I am shoving it into my mouth while walking down a crowded street and getting crumbs all over my chest in the process. I can run for a bus or train without anyone making a snide remark. As a big guy, Iâm big enough to make miscreants or troublemakers decide to take their hostility elsewhere. As a woman, I am revolting. I am not only unattractively mannish but also grossly fat. The clothes I can fit into at the local big-girl stores tend to fit around the neck and then get bigger as they go downward, which results in a festive butch-in-a-bag lookâall the rage nowhere, ever. No matter how clearly I order a Coke in a restaurant I must be on a diet, and so I get a Diet Cokeâusually with a lemon floating in it accusatorily, looking up at me as if to say, âThis is as good as itâs going to get, lardass.â Wait staff develop selective amnesia about my side of fries or my request for butter, and G-d help me if I get caught eating (or even shopping) in public as a woman. Packs of boys follow me, mooing; women with aggressively coordinated outfits accost me in the grocery store to inform me that I can lose thirty pounds in thirty days and that they would love to help. There are pig calls (âSoooooooooieeeeeeeee!â) and the particular piece of performance art that is someone shuddering every time I take a step (to signify the seismic reality of my enormous, ground-shaking bulk). The fat woman I am some days does not view a stroll down a dark street with anything but barely disguised fear.â
â âPart-Time Fatsoâ by S. Bear Bergman from The Fat Studies Reader, pg. 141
Got pulled over because he "saw someone flash their lights at me" and it made him "think something was going on". After he ran my paperwork and did multiple full walk-arounds of my car, he decided everything was in order and I was free to go. I just wanted to get home from work.
Living in MD got pulled over when I pulled into my landlady's [100%, rich, suburban] community and questioned what my purpose was there. "I live here" was not an acceptable answer and I ended up needing to call my landlady to talk to the officer and convince them that I really did live there, in her basement inlaw apartment, courtesy of her granddaughter. When he finally let me go he told me he "actually" pulled me over because he "thought [my] headlights were out" but on "second glance" they were just fine. Dunno how you can mistake headlights being on or off.
And I know I've told the story of when one of my elderly white neighbors called the police on me for training my dog in a public use field and how even the cop that showed up thought the call was stupid and racist.
My dad got pulled over when I was still in a carseat because they thought it was "suspicious" that a grown man would have such a young child with him on a school day. He was driving me back to school from a doctor's appointment. They made him get our of the car, lean against it, and searched both him and the car because they "smelled something" while he did his best to keep me calm and tell me that it was going to be okay. I was too young to understand what happened at the time. I just remember he was furious the entire ride back to school, and he was still mad when I got off the bus that afternoon.
It really is just Like This, being black in this country.
I see the United States Government is having a normal one

barring that palestinian queers have and will always exist and to deem an entire group of people as being inherently homophobic is a fucked line of thinking, i do not support palestine because i happen to agree with their politics or because i expect palestinians to lay their life for me. i support palestine because genocide is, and will always be wrong, because i do not need a reciprocation for me to fucking loathe oppression and colonialism, and it scares me that many of you do not truly believe in liberation of the oppressed.
When Hamas took hostages into Gaza, their goal was a hostage exchange that would free thousands of Palestinian civilians from this. Last month, Israel kidnapped 4,000 Palestinians, bringing the totally of imprisoned and tortured Palestinians to 10,000. That number has undoubtedly gone up.
Another Palestinian prisoner has died in Israeli jails, the fifth since 7 October, and is believed to have been tortured to death by Israeli
Disability rights should extend to people who did that to themselves. To the bloke who got paralysed because he was trying to do a dumb trick on his skateboard, to the person who has diabetes because they ate unhealthily, yes even to those people who got blinded at that NFT convention.
As an on again off again alcoholic who has tried and tried again at recovery, I find myself in a space now where I'm starting to lose my liver function, and I'm now therefore chronically ill. And it sucks, I've tried medication that just exacerbated my mental health issues and I'm signing up for my fourth AOD service. It will always be my fault that I'm chronically ill, but the idea that there are good disabled people and bad disabled people kicks people like me out in the cold.
I think everyone deserves equal opportunity to access disability services, get government pensions, use mobility aids, etc etc, without people going 'actually, you did this to yourself'.
Disability rights NEED to include people who are disabled due to their own actions.
You literally can't properly advocate for rights otherwise. People should not need to suffer needlessly due to mistakes they made.
Nobody should have the power to decide whether or not a disabled person deserves aid, if we allow that in any context we are forming the path for corruption and mistreatment.
if someone told me their pronouns were attack/helicopter I would just use them
if attack's serious then attack's probably the funniest person on earth. if not then attack'll have to tell you attacks actual pronouns. there's no losing
Pardon me friend, but I do believe you have misconjugated this particular set of pronouns in your penultimate sentence. In most cases, the slash between words indicates a nominative vs oblique case (cf he/him).
Now, giving only two versions of the pronoun does make it difficult to extrapolate the possessive form (cf he/him/his, which gives us nominative/dative and accusative/possessive). However, lacking any other information, let us assume that attack/helicopter declines similarly to the pronoun "she," which has but two forms, plus a possessive adjective formed by adding -s to the oblique form. To whit:
Attack = nominative (cf "she")
Helicopter = oblique cases (cf "her")
Helicopters = possessive adjective (cf "hers")
Thus, your penultimate sentence would properly read "If not, then attack'll have to tell you helicopters actual pronouns."

Reminder that in Gaza alone, around 90-95% of the water supply is contaminated and unfit for human consumption...
If you dont believe israel is capable of this evilness (that they've been enforcing for OVER 50 YEARS) read it for yourself, from AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
âYou donât have to be that gung-ho on trans rights to realize that a world where girlsâ genitals need to be inspected before they can play any sport is worse for girls than a world where once in a while thereâs a trans girl on a girlsâ team.â âEvan Urquhart
the only funny thing in the past week or so has been: that time in vancouver that two indigenous women at a restaurant spotted trudeau also eating there, and without hesitation, started up a "ceasefire now" call that got picked up by more people in the restaurant, and forced trudeau to slink out in shame.
also they have a store where they sell nice soaps and skincare and stuff! while i'm sure they weren't doing this for The Clout, it's good to support small businesses, especially when they take a stand like this that could expose them to risk. go check it out and support them if you can!
I have cochlear implants and I can only buy parts to fix them or upgrade then from 1 corporation bc of tech exclusivity. upgrades to get new processors for both ears cost $23k & insurance only covers 90% (and itâs âgoodâ insurance)

A LOT of "inflation" is actually corporations taking advantage of "inflation" to hide profiteering.
