Spoken language is still processed through the auditory sense and centers. Your brain cannot tell the difference between things you actually hear and things that you have only imagined hearing. Silent reading is imagining the sound of words being spoken. The big question, is what kind of voice do you hear reading the words? (I hear my own voice as it sounded when I was 5.)

^Which is also why if you are close to someone, you often imagine their voices as you read their text messages.

I imagine my own inflections but the actual voice has no sound in my head -it’s literally just as if 2d words have risen up from the paper and are making soundless syllables in my head. I can totally think in another person’s voice if I want too though. 

I read Terry’s texts in his voice mentally, but if I’m reading a book I sometimes have to read it at least softly to myself. Anymore I listen to audio books though.

This is so interesting actually... I hear my voice as I hear myself everyday but also can assign voices t different characters as I read their parts, I find it makes the book much more enjoyable. :)
