“You are your own best friend. Never, ever, put yourself down.”
— Paulo Coelho (via amargedom)
the philosophy that your body is something separate from your mind and soul, a disobedient machine in need of governing, rather than one and the same entity as you are, is a philosophy designed in the 16th century to serve capitalist interests! release it and accept that your consciousness is also in your fingers and your tummy
we need to say things like “listen to your body” “get in tune with your body” because western society is deeply invested in separating the mind from the body in order to force us to work past our natural limits. christianity contrived the lie that “we” as humans are some true self at dwells reluctantly within yet at odds with our bodies, in order to force us to work beyond our bodies’ natural limits and to disregard our feelings of hunger and exhaustion. we’re only starting to realize how unnatural and harmful this is and yet we’re afraid to accept the natural truth that our bodies and minds are one and the same entity.
THIS.
End cartesian dualism
Technically, it’s not just Descartes but a problem with the so-called Western “Enlightenment”. The methods of categorisation changed during this period, and are generally responsible for more modern racism and classism. Prior to the Enlightenment, the notion was that all people were children of Adam and Eve. Structurally speaking, the clashes between say, Christianity and Islam were those of dogma, rather than race. Race, and other categorisation methodologies, notably taxonomy, changed the structure of Western epistemology, building on mediaeval conceptions of Aristotle and then hyperfocus on what made things different. Where before, things were categorised on basis of similarity and sympathy, (a book on snakes might also contain reference to things with snakelike qualities or properties) now it became about grouping things together by referencing a boundary of difference. The mechanisms of capture are obviously visible in colonialism and land ownership. This is why it’s so difficult and somewhat dangerous to project modern identities on ancient figures - the structure of their epistemology was different. Many people we now claim as gay or white or trans, for example, would not necessarily felt themselves to be these categories. Homosexuality, or heterosexuality as we currently define it, is from memory, only a couple of hundred years old, yet there have same sex relationships throughout history. The way we construct our knowledge of the world is important - we see the world in terms of subject-object as an example. We privilege the subject over the object. This is an inequality which is writ large when we consider that workers are objects to corporations. We speak of dehumanization, objectification. We privilege the human over everything else, naming the everything-else “the world” We reduce humanity to numbers, and then move those numbers around with mathematics, expecting them to behave as numbers. The anthropocentric is privileged, and the object is oppressed. Object oriented ontology suggest we’re all objects - there is no subject. Objects distort each other. Similarly, if we recognise ourselves not as separate from everything else, we find ourselves at a very interesting point: what do we do when the human is not privileged?
Similarly, when we say Fuck Descartes (and I do, often) we are also calling out commodity fetishism as Marx did, for providing a singular connection between producer and consumer as the only relation that matters, a wielding of Occam’s Razor that is arguably flat out responsible for more murder and genocide en masse than anything else. Perceiving the universe as a piece of clockwork with distinct, knowable parts requires the construction of the concept of parts - that’s to say, privileging the whole over the part, while also reducing the whole to parts. Much the capture boundaries are arbitrary, as witnessed by the constructed nature of things like sexual orientation, gender, race etc. but also a question about our own bodies: where does one’s finger become hand, or hand become wrist, or wrist, arm etc? This also applies when we say that there are discrete systems: our digestive system vs our nervous system say. Recent discoveries regarding the effects of the gut microbiome suggest that it may be a so called”second brain”. This very well may explode the category, in the same way that genetic studies have blown assumptions of sex out of the water. We need to recognise that much of what we perceive about the world is shaped by how we know it, and that how we know it is also a constructed thing. Fuck Descartes. Fuck the Clockwork Universe. Fuck Late Stage Surveillance Capitalism and its attendant Big Data.

You did not come here to dispel worry and to be comforted; rather, you came into the arena of third density to strive in darkness. Your greatest sight is the blind but loving heart, for one sees with the heart the light which is not visible to the mind; for within the heart rests the spirit of love. This spirit is a side of wisdom which has no words in your density, and it expresses its wisdom in the more and more purified emotions. When the seeker comes first to the conscious study of the processes of spiritual choice-making, at first the heart is less than optimally pure in its expression. The seeker begins, day-by-day and meditation-by-meditation, to empty out of the heart the less pure of that heart’s contents, as though the heart were a pocket in which many things had been placed, some of which were not desirable. After a time meditating and seeking, the heart begins to be released from having to hold so much of that which is less than pure; and then the heart may begin to shed its wisdom upon the conscious mind. This purifying process is not short, and we do not wish to suggest that you must become consciously pure in heart. We simply encourage each to do the work of opening in meditation regularly and allowing the heart to empty itself of the petty trivia so that its strain may be deeper and ever more pure. The path to the deep mind goes through what we call the heart. This is why we focus upon this word, “heart.” We wish, centrally, to disengage the mind from the intellectualizing capacity of your brain, for although one may speak intellectually of spiritual truths, the truths are only true in and as a whole when they are felt rather than intellectually understood. -Q’uo, The Law Of One
“With the opened eye of his rational perceptions the sage gazed out upon a very different world. First, with mortal eyes gazing upon the illusion are seen all those treasures which in our ignorance we have held dear. But gradually as the eyes of the flesh are closed, the eye of the soul is opened, and like a dream the spectacle of worldliness fades and in its place the permanent universe is revealed.” - Manly P. Hall
