#fandom#harry potter#this is the real reason fandom is mocked derided and insulted by creators#because it *can’t* be packaged and resold#because our culture doesn’t know how to sell sex to women outside of the male gaze#and because women have created a community where they don’t need to buy anything to get what they want#and to people whose entire livelihoods#depend on creating and marketing unattainable ‘perfection’ to young women#telling them what sex and sex appeal is#how they should feel about it#and how they should desire it#and what they need to buy to be worth it#our entire economy is based on women being cut into parts and those parts being sexualized#and turned back around and sold to men and women alike#and fandom doesn’t participate#it creates its own economy and there’s no space for that model#that’s terrifying#and the people who used to hold all the cards mock it#because they lost the ‘C&D and shut-down’ alternative

The types of fandom that are most often considered traditional and acceptable, and which are often either male-dominated or coded as masculine, tend to be acquisitive, whether in terms of knowledge (obscure trivia) or merchandise (collectibles). Whenever we compare ourselves to the ‘genius men’ of the past, and wonder why we fall so short, remember this: their intellectual capacity, energy, and freedom was because there was someone else washing the damn dishes.

I’ve seen so many women have to wear pissy dress heels and run or fight or jump in them (I’m looking square at you, Jurassic World), that the wedges bound to a leg didn’t bother me. Also, Paradise Island is a warm, tropical island filled with women; why wouldn’t they dress for the weather? There are no men to leer at them. They probably have a rule if you catch another Amazon leering at you and it’s unwelcome, you can challenge her to battle or some such. (As for wearing a breezy outfit outside the Paradise, all I can think is, Diana isn’t subject to cold or heat, being a god. I think she only wore the cloak for modesty around the humans.)
