One of the times men are at highest risk is after a divorce, or the death of their spouse. Because the entirety of their social support needs are placed on their spouse. This is why older men are at a high risk especially if they’re widowers, but the risk of older women (who statistically are likely to outlive men), who tend to have more social support, doesn’t increase. But men are afraid of providing or asking for social support with friends because it’s “for women”/”weak” or “gay.”

Also, “it’s more acceptable for women to get help” is not “female privilege.” It’s more acceptable for women to get help because we are already perceived as weak; men fear seeking help because they fear being seen as weak. Patriarchy backfiring on men is not female privilege.
