All Things Must Die

There's the kind that would work brilliantly in a TV adaptation due to being action-packed and fast-paced, but also because the show is written as essentially just an audio recording of what's happening, the same way most TV shows are written just as a video of what's happening. You can kind of tell that some of them were made into audio dramas because the creators didn't have the budget or outreach to make it an actual tv show (though the audio drama community benefits greatly from this, because they're generally pretty exciting as a result). They don't really do anything fancy to explain/incorporate the audio medium, like narration or diegetic audio, instead opting to just immerse the listener in whatever story they're telling. Examples of this are Midnight Burger (which does have a small bit of narration in the latest season, but mostly operates the way I described), and the Second Citadel storyline of the Penumbra Podcast (and parts of Juno Steel, though that one relies heavily on narration).

There's also the kind where the plot relies so heavily on the audio format that it being a podcast is completely inextricable from the story itself. Relying heavily on narration to explain what's happening, radio shows, or diegetic audio are all pretty common traits of this genre of audio drama. They take advantage of their audio medium, and couldn't really function as anything else, except maybe a book if it weren't for the way the voice acting ties it all together. Examples include The Magnus Archives/Protocol (and other similar tape-recorder anthologies like Archive 81, SOMNARIUM, or The Black Chest), Malevolent (which puts the user somewhat in Arthur's position by making them experience the story through sound and description alone), and Welcome to Night Vale (and other radio/PA-system driven stories like Camp Here & There, Midnight Radio, etc.).

Currently Watching: Oh man okay, I'm so bad with watching new stuff or keeping on track of shows I watch BUT I am doing a lot of rewatching right now which includes the Hannibal tv show for the second/third time, Castlevania.....for the 6th time (I KNOW OKAY😭😂 MY AUTISM CANT HELP IT), and I started Maul (Star Wars tv show) but haven't gotten past the first few episodes yet. Fun fact about me, Star Wars is/was a special interest of mine for yearssssssss

Currently Reading: Embarrassingly I don't have current book read....I've been mostly reading lore stuff (or even reading the lil books in skyrim LOL), fanfic, and the occasional textbook stuff from my ole BIO classes

Last song: I've been listening a lot to "Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally" so that entire album on repeat, the last one I listened to was Pop. (Also, "Coming Up Roses" is my favourite song off that album, I've been listening to it on repeat)

When Life Gives You Corpses is a brilliant YA about a cursed praying mantis who falls for a young witch. Yield Under Great Persuasion is a raunchy, but surprisingly sweet story about two men repairing their relationship. Fabulous Bodies is a horror story about a queer rockstar rising from the dead.

This is Where the Future Bleeds is a fantasy set in a vividly imagined land, where two women (who happen to kiss) are the key to healing the broken sky. You're No Better is a story about a teen struggling in the shadow of his murderous parent. Oil on Canvas is about a woman who finds disturbing paintings in the home of her dead mother.

Lurid Editions are "a publishing project committed to intentional and conscientious acts of archival repair". They are "attentive to how marginalised histories are forgotten and remembered, [and] hungry to rediscover overlooked queer books". They've just received funding from Arts Council England to engage queer readers in a project to contribute to the archive!

Cipher Press "We’re really keen on the idea that queer and minority stories are for everybody, and we want to make our books – and the stories they tell - accessible to all" (what an amazing mission statement!)

(Some) Queer Bookshops

Queer Lit Oh man, I remember when this was just a tiny little shop, and now they're the biggest LGBT+ bookshop in Europe! They do amazing work in donating books about being trans to schools and parliament! They have a pay-it-forward board that will make you sob with its notes of love and support. (You can tell I wish I still lived nearby)

Lighthouse For Scottish friends - "a queer-owned and woman led independent community bookshop. We are an unapologetically activist, intersectional, feminist, antiracist, lgbtq+ community space"

i put them on my front door and anytime it opens they ring. that way if i think someone has broken in or i see someone who isn’t there i can think back to if the bells have rung, and if they haven’t i can assure myself it’s not real. obviously it’s not fool proof, like if you are prone to auditory hallucinations, but it has really helped me calm down in time to avoid major psychotic breaks. it’s a real lifesaver

who here likes incredibly bare-bones first sketches of comic pages. anyway working on an 18 page threshold ep 2 comic :^)
