star trek in a nutshell
Based on a textpost by @generalgrievousdatingsim
found family dynamics i adore: the entire gang shares 1 (one) braincell which they takes turns passing around unwilling teammates gradually
^^^^ Literally one of my favorite Geordi and Data interactions for SO many reasons.
First, I love that Geordi will talk to Data about almost anything, but when Data starts in on some stupid joke, Geordiâs first instinct is âOh, noâŚâ followed by a sprint for the exit. Like he doesnât even take his VISOR with him. He will do anything, pay anything, leave his sight behind to escape the monotone, hallmark humor he is about to be subjected to.
Second, I love that Dataâs first instinct, when his friend begins to flee from his attempt at humor is to block his only route of escape. As if Geordi is being crazy and he just doesnât understand how hilarious this joke is going to be. He must tell his best friend his new joke, no matter the cost.
Third, I love that then he slowly pushes his friend back into the room as he recites his stupid, centuries-old joke in a complete monotone. This is what the rise of robots will look like. Not Skynet. Not the Matrix. Just socially awkward, pale androids locking us in a room and forcing us to listen to their bad jokes.
And finally, I love that Geordi listens, then just shakes his head, and Data shakes his head, too. Like I canât tell if Data is following Geordiâs head movements like a kitten or if heâs shaking his head because deep down he knew it wasnât a good joke and Geordi is just confirming his suspicions.
I JUST LOVE THESE TWO SO MUCH

WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE
Christopher: A woman? Kirk: A crewman.
OH LOOK AT THAT THE 1960S
AND SHEâS IN COMMAND GOLD FUCKERS.
Sheâs not in Medical blue, a caretaking, feminine role. Â
Those in Gold were either OFFICERS, NAVIGATORS, PILOTS, TACTICAL OFFICERS, or WEAPONS SPECIALISTS. Â
This is the Kirk everyone likes to forget.
Yâall, if you care about feminism, then you ought to care about the history and context of the miniskirt. The 60s were an era of rebellion against the 50s, and the skirts were part of it. They were literally cutting edge fashion, and a statement that women made against the more housewifey style of skirt from the decade before. It was Grace Lee Whitney herself who suggested to Roddenberry that they wear them, and Nichelle Nichols has said she never had a problem with them. They are a product of their time yes, but the women chose to wear them because of the context of that time.Â
Also some men in Starfleet ware miniskirts and dresses:
And some of the women wear pants:
Theyâre given the power of choice, regardless of gender or sex.
Shit â-â None of this even clicked to me - Thats fucking glorious :D
Picard in that dress is so good. Look at him! He looks formal and serious and dignified! He looks like heâs captain of his ship and heâs got some important business to do. And heâs in a dress and tights. And itâs not a joke. Itâs not a joke about a man in a dress! Itâs just, you know, a man who is wearing a dress, and thatâs normal and appropriate. Itâs part of the uniform. It fits him. Itâs totally unremarkable and that is so rare and Iâm so happy.
Star Trek was written by people who saw the real future. Women in high positions in their career, men in skirts and dresses, women in pants, sliding doors, I could go on but all I know of this show is what I see fans have posted of it. This Star Trek was ahead of its time.Â
I donât even watch Star Trek but that is the most graceful bitchslap I have ever seen.
Something tells me Sarek is going to regret that request.Â
He suuuuuure isâŚ.

âNear the time of this production Nimoy told a newspaper writer, âAlthough we are essentially a humanistic show, the Enterprise is heavily armed and a lot of guns get shown. My way of avoiding participation in the violence was the Spock Pinch. I decided that Vulcans knew so much about the human anatomy that they could knock out an enemy just by pinching a nerve in the neck and the shoulders.â Nimoy approached Leo Penn with his idea. Shatner had been listening in, so when Penn asked for a demonstration, he quickly volunteered to be the guinea pig. Nimoy recalled, âI applied pressure to the juncture of Billâs neck and shoulder, and he most convincingly fell into an âunconsciousâ heap on the floor. Thus the famous neck pinch was born, in part because of Bill Shatnerâs talent for fainting on cue.ââ
â marc cushman, these are the voyages, describing literally the best cast of all time ever (via spicyshimmy)
Leonard Nimoy: Can anyone here help me demonstrate this thing by overzealously fainting on command?
William âdrama is my middle nameâ Shatner: my time has come
so can we talk about how the starfleet uniform shirt
IS APPARENTLY COMPOSED OF TINY STARFLEET INSIGNIAS
this is why HD was invented. for this moment
yo, we heard you like star trek, so we put some star trek in your star trek so you can star trek while you star trek
a house but the roof is shingled in Star Trek collectorâs plates
SickbayÂ
My art submission for @startrekreversebang! And the accompanying fic by @vtsuion is just. I couldnât have asked for a better fic. Itâs Spirky, itâs subtle, itâs canon-compliant, it addresses certain issues that shouldâve been addressed in TOS⌠itâs been a delight to work with them! They deserve all the accolades for putting up with me being MIA half the time.
Thank you, VTsuion for being amazing, and thank you, STRBB mods for organizing this!
