I love that the ATLA franchise just keeps showcasing how airbending is the most terrifying element and that the Air Nomads were not peaceful due to being weaker but due to seeing it as a moral obligation because of how lethal they knew their element could be in the wrong hands. It just continues to prove what Ozai said to Aang in the finale wrong. And it shows us how strong Aang’s heart and mind are, because he could be a monster, he could easily take lives as revenge, but that wasn’t what his people stood for or how Gyatso raised him
Also how them being the smallest nation IS, in fact, the way to balance because they are so ridiculously OP’d.
Very true, because imagine if they’d been as big as the earth kingdom? Everyone woulda been COOKED
Rewatching atla episodes for Reasons and I just realised that Zuko found Appa the night after he found out he was missing. The gaang have been desperately searching for, what? A few weeks? And Zuko sees a poster saying Appa is missing and just squares tf up and finds him immediately. What a fucking madman.
#this is why they put him in charge of the Fire Nation #there is nothing Zuko cannot find up to and including his country’s long lost sense of morality
i mean he had already managed to actually find the avatar, whom literally the entire world (except katara lmao) had believed was dead and gone forever. im pretty sure if zuko decides he is going to Find Something the universe rearranges itself to put it in his path.
This comes in handy when he has kids.
Dude literally found:
🔥The avatar
🔥Appa
🔥His lost uncle via a sweaty sandal
🔥A secret civilization thought to be long gone
🔥The last 2 dragons existing
🔥Katara and Sokka’s Father plus Suki
🔥Katara’s mother’s murderer
🔥His honor
🔥His entire nation’s honor
I mean the dude was wild. He was born to find stuff. I don’t really know if he found his mother but like…that too. You kinda get why the Gaang saw Zuko and thought, hey what if we use him to find stuff?
He absolutely found his mother. And I cannot believe I am only just now noticing this whole concept.
Also while he took years to find the avatar, the avatar was in ice basically that whole time. Once the avatar had been freed from the ice Zuko found him IMMEDIATELY
atla just so happened to write one of the most insane and complex brother sister relationships in all of television, and yet for some reason everyone focused on zuko and azula instead, even though they are basically just normal siblings, and as such not even that interesting ..
their dynamic is more fraught and tragic than you could ever comprehend……
this☝️ is just a typical sibling interaction
katara and sokka are what happens when you are your brother’s mother and your brother also tries to be your father. you love them, you hate them, you’re half of them, you can’t stand them, you look after them, they keep you safe.
azula and zuko are both just gifted kid burnouts with a dad that only loves the winner.
#yeah when they're not trying to kill each other azula and Zuko are p normal. #katara and sokka on the other hand spent the majority of their childhood trying to raise each other #and were also the ONLY kids in their age group that they ever interacted with. #they are so. they're so. #''i don't remember what my mom looks like I just picture katara'' WHEN HE HAS HIS MOTHER'S FACE. kills me. You can love a character and still admit when they're wrong !! I love Korra but I can acknowledge her flaws (she has none) and can hold her accountable for her wrongdoings (she’s never done anything wrong in her life) and call her out for her actions (which are always correct).
Kyoshi and Rangi from new official comics "Masters of the Elements"!
They are so cute together!
the gaang as adults (from the ending credits of "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender")
First it was MAI!
Then it was JUNE!
But now it’s………
ZHU LYYYY!!!!!!
I love fanfiction because sometimes The Character needs to be held gently and sometimes they need to be beaten to death with a club. and you 🫵 can make both of those happen. for free

in the year of our lord 2026 there are somehow still people who think that Korra's to blame for her lost connection to the past Avatars
not her uncle Unalaq who literally ripped Raava out of her body and destroyed her
Imagine being the avatar that single handedly saved the world several times and brought back the whole air bender population from the brink of extinction and some cunt still has the nerve to say "the previous avatar let us down" Korra should have ended the world sooner
#Most recent leak indicates the end of the world is 100% unequivocally Korra's fault non-negotiably #I want to scream WHAT.
HOW.
Potential spoilers obviously BUT.
The most recent leak says it's revealed that Korra resurrected Vaatu at his peak power and fused him with Raava to recreate the Twilight Spirit, which split apart at the dawn of creation, and then siphoned the chi of every bender on the world into herself in order to fix her mistake.
That mistake being the spirit portals.
The overflow of spiritual energy caused by the spirit portals killed the Earth's core, which is a primordial spirit, as well as the sun and moon. So Korra had to obtain all that power and recreate the Twilight Spirit in order to basically reorganize the planet and give it a second shot at life.
There's a 300 year gap between her doing that and Pavi and her twin being born so everybody is long dead and it's uncertain if we'll find out what happened with Asami and company, but presumably Korra sacrificed herself in her 50s from the looks of things.
So basically no matter how you spin it, her opening the spirit portals and then creating a third one killed Earth. Every single thing after that is a result of her trying to fix that mistake.
coming out of tumblr retirement to remind you sluts Korra has never done anything wrong ever and anyone who disagrees can meet me out back
Imagine being the avatar that single handedly saved the world several times and brought back the whole air bender population from the brink of extinction and some cunt still has the nerve to say "the previous avatar let us down" Korra should have ended the world sooner
oh god we might have to come out of retirement for this

deluding myself into believing that actually the writers saw the undeserved hate audiences have been giving korra since the show and decided to play with it in seven havens. yeah. that one shot of her looking evil is going to turn out to be from the perspective of an unproven story about her. anti-korra propaganda became a huge issue by the end of her life and not even a final sacrifice could right her in the eyes of the public. right guys? guys? wait where are you going
I don't care about Avatarian, but the way some of you are calling it "anti-Asian" or "not connected to real culture" is showing your ass
Replacing Chinese characters with a system of your own devising, which has consonant and vowel symbols combined into syllable blocks, is one of the proudest cultural accomplishments of Korea!
like, i don't know if that they definitely *were* inspired by Hangul, but it would make sense, it's pretty famous in conlanging circles
I think it's less likely that they were inspired by Pahawh Hmong but that's another neat historical example of making up your own script so I wanted to link it too :P
If you watch the panel, Bryan says directly he was inspired by Hangul and they chose to make a new writing system after discussions with their cultural consultants, that using Chinese didn't fit so well given how diverse their cultural inspirations range.
