Tenzin and Korra get along because they vibrate at the same frequency of "extremely homeschooled" and "horse girl" and yes this is all Katara's fault (affectionate)
Tenzin and Korra's last functioning brain cells when they're together:
The expert emotional regulation of people raised in a compound under a lot of pressure.
passive top korra / forward bottom asami is actually the realest dynamic. no, it's not about korra has to be "the top (aka man-role coded)" just because she is the less feminine or because she is muscular or the avatar or whatever. it's about korra being blushing, stuttering, avoidant, (even initially spiteful!), because of her anxiety of being too much for asami and asami judging her for all her intensity. meanwhile asami this whole time is desperate, fantasizing, craving to get absolutely railed to heaven and korra doesn't even realize it lmao.
imo the thing about people who wanna argue about this whole dynamic like it's a total empty blank slate, is that. it's not lol. like idk i see this so often in the korrasami fandom in general that people just wanna shoot where they wanna land, and not so much "what was really told about these characters?" (this is said with awareness that people can absolutely make headcanons + content + wish to see what they please btw. this is just my personal frustration due to how I engage with ships - only through analysis of themes, emotions, etc)
i am not saying that kinda dynamic is definitively, explicitly confirmed as the eternal state of it. I am not even saying it like it's something we should be figuring out for every odd couple, because idc.
I am saying it like. for korrasami, there was actually in canon an (implied!!!) emotional arc around this depicted. not in terms of outcome, but the kinda set-up for the emotional dynamic that leads to it lol.
because korrasami is literally the only (non married) canon couple in all of lok to be directly implied to have had sex (between turf wars and rote). through actual storybeats. and yes it was only IMPLIED, NOT explicit, but very strongly so to be picked up by an adult audience. like there is actually suggestively loaded scenes around that and emotional context behind it, even if those are just a handful.
sex does not exist in a vacuum and it has emotional implications that transfers in and out of the bedroom. between two adults who are going to have sex, suggestive or seductive moments are directly part of the dynamic in sex, whatever complicated or unpredictable that may be. I really don't care what people write smut fics etc (go wild lol), but it's also like. the suggestion was made in the canon story, and it is kinda left there for those neurotic perverts like me who wanna analyze intimacy. especially due to how much intimacy has weight in korra's storyline. like I am not sure why I personally should care about it if it didn't carry over from the actual story, and especially korra's character.
writers include sex scenes AND ALSO IMPLIED SEX exactly to say something about the intimacy between those characters, so we absolutely can say something about it, even if it was, you know, implied. and imo that ^^ is what I think those elements said about korrasami. directly implied in canon. given they did suggest they fuck/wanted to fuck, which they didn't even HAVE to include in the story if it wasn't saying anything about those characters.
like to me, the one thing they've done so far with setting up Korra's "she's humanity's destroyer?" plotline that's borderline in bad taste is the fighting game. now I haven't played that game & I'm not going to, because I really don't give a fuck about it lol. that said, I've seen some screenshots. I can't comment to the details, obviously, but what I've seen is enough to consider it.
there was a weird thing going on with pairing korra and azula together, which obviously had some quite strong... subtext. first of all this is weird and creepy, given korra in the game is implied to be at her 18 year old self and azula is her 14 year old atla design. given that korra is canonically wlw and azula is very often interpreted as queer (including by her own OG VA), they knew exactly what they were doing, don't tell me otherwise. which I'm not leaving aside, that was very weird and also UNNECESSARY, but it's not even the point here.
the point is there was this "go to the dark and rule the world together" theme in that dialogue. again, haven't played, don't know all of it, just that this element was put in there between azula and korra. and I think that's really the reason they included that. they're trollin us. azula is obviously an antagonist and korra is a protagonist... who has been compared to her own antagonists, because of her intensity. azula and korra both share mental health struggles, too. wow, let's compare them and think about how evil they'd be together?! their instability would make them go dark and rule the world together with all their powers, right?!
so that's the point. it's very obvious to me what they're doing. it's a whole marketing ploy to support the framing in the seven havens trailer. they're comparing Korra to azula and implying korra having a turn to darkness (like azula!). like I'm not even getting into why this is disrespectful and annoying to do to azula's character too (again, idgaf about the game, so not gonna analyze it beyond the points here), it's just this is such a gimmicky way of building up the weight of allegations against korra. I think I even saw some imagery that Korra fused with vaatu in the game, too, to enter some dark mode, or whatever. I am not going to restate here how totally gross that implication is, but like. whatever. guess they need to convince us somehow. point is it's SO overdone it's actually very transparently a false lead.
so yeah, what I gather is there's a deliberate, highly detailed marketing strategy around this. this is supported by how vague and evasive bryke in general are about korra, and how there's so little material given to new canon korra stories right now. they want US to think THAT THEY THINK that korra would/could go evil, and are using every cheap card to play it up before the new show launches. like it still only supports my opinion that they're trolling, but some of it I'm starting to question if it's really necessary or not.
so this is why I say that seven havens 100% needs a full wan-scale flashback episode to korra telling her version of the story. you can't justify it with "oh it's just a new story, who cares". there's just no way to justify the amount of build-up in the storyline AND IN REAL WORLD MARKETING to defame korra through all objective measures. Not if she doesn't eventually get a full, actually humanized chance to explain her side of things in all details. something that FULLY turns the narrative around on itself 180. because taking korra's legacy down is not just a narrative tool woven into the new show for it's own purpose (like aang in lok). no, they are absolutely bringing korra into this on her own merits, and like # justice for my girl. they're bringing it up above the fucking moon, so gotta bring it back down to land safely.
An interesting but quite weird thing that lok book 2 did was very clearly juxtapose mako/korra with bolin/eska (had a relationship with a "crazy" quite physically imposing watertribe woman, then went through a rough break-up, briefly rekindling before breaking up AGAIN in parallel scenes) and mako/asami with bolin/ginger (more temptation-based relationship while in the city, revolves around... varrick... doesn't have a clear resolution.... # we treat women like trash).
especially, and this is really obviously the point tbh, comparing bolin and eska's "I'll always keep you in my heart, my feeble turtleduck" very permanent break-up despite affection with Mako and Korra's.... very permanent break-up despite their affection for each other. like they even made mako's break-up advice to bolin regarding eska on how to break up with a "dangerous woman" circle right back to him about korra, like don't tell me this wasn't the writers intention.
idk I feel like they were making some points but also very high on spirit crack.

sometimes I realize that some makorra shippers follow me.
I don't really mind at all, but you guys must have a terrible time here, I'm sorry asdfkljadf
all i'm saying is that if the only lens you can enjoy a story or a character dynamic through is romance and shipping, then well. your media analysis skills are just kinda shit actually. and i'm not sorry for saying it. you're missing the point of the story in question and removing the things that make it unique by shoving everything into boxes. not everything goes in the square hole.
Resting after a match ✨
letting myself have a fandom moment here, please forgive me. like. when I'm interested in a fictional relationship, I'm interested in the dynamic between them and interested in how a romantic aspect could change or REVEAL further aspects of their dynamic. the want for that relationship to be romantic comes from a place of engaging w the plot of the story and the personalities of the character. it has never come from a place of "I want these characters in a healthy monogamous relationship with one another where they get married and have kids together" like ur all out of ur mind for this
personally, if my theory that 7 Havens takes place 10,000 years later is correct, I DONT think we're gonna get very much in terms of seeing the Krew again. and I'm ok with that because I'm not a pussy.
imo they're all dead and gone from the surface of the earth in seven havens given *gestures to the whole trailer and premise*, which is good to me, but I think we will likely see them in a flashback. it feels fair. a korra flashback episode feels more than appropriate if the set-up is to defame her through propaganda etc. given the storyline, korra does need narrative space allocated to eventually tell her own truth, and seeing a lot of korra's group along with her in such an episode seems not only narratively warranted, but also the kind of bone bryke would throw... like it makes sense to put them there.

Characters of Color Meme: [1/5] Relationships/Dynamics with Characters of Color
Mako and Prince Wu in ‘Avatar: The Legend of Korra’
I very frequently see the seven havens speculation that "oh the apocalypse was probably just that korra was possessed by vaatu, he used her body to destroy the whole world, it's not like she wanted to (then she died, presumably)"
as much as I am here being in good faith about bryke's treatment of korra and that I do genuinely enjoy the premise of seven havens, I can't even begin to articulate how fucked up and maliciously problematic that angle would be
it'd already be a really shitty way to treat any avatar, because while it is established part of the lore that they will all make mistakes and leave problems for their next life to deal with, it is uniquely horrible if korra did so with zero agency or self-awareness. doubly so, specifically so with the themes of agency in her own story. it's shitty writing, when they could have had an apocalypse caused by SO MUCH else. ANYTHING else.
much worse, it would legit be SO problematic that it would in 0.1 second make me delete my whole bryke-scription and turn into the largest flamer of all time.
i seriously cannot emphasize enough how absolutely horrible it is to go a "she was just overtaken by darkness and ruined everything" angle on korra given her intersectionality. korra's controversial abrasiveness, her being a brown woman, being indigenous-coded, her being physically powerful, her being violated multiple times, AND IMPORTANTLY, the last season of the show dealing heavily with korra's MENTAL HEALTH struggles and PTSD AND HER BEING QUEER. going directly from that ending to "lmao she just destroyed the whole world because darkness overtook her from within and she had no control" LIKE WHAT. ARE YOU SAYING.
it's literally the worst possible idea anyone could ever come up with. to be clear, I DON'T think bryke will actually do this. I think they will try to mislead us to think this momentarily to explore a defamation storyline. but I don't think they will, it is genuinely horrific and stupid. IT'S SO FUCKING STUPID. it is just so horrible it's a bit disturbing even seeing people (especially korra and lok likers) make these speculations like that would at all work for korra's character, like wtf tbh!!!!!
I hope bryan didn't spend YEARS hyping up this "secret project" he's working on for it.... to be a fucking... kuruk show.......... why surferboy.
the funniest part of lok is when toph roasts her own daughters for their metalbending abilities lmao. bye bye "you make me so proud just as you are, son" corniness. hello, "suck it up, you'll never be as cool as me, your parent" Beifong toxicity.
The currency of Republic City in The Legend of Korra may have been inspired by a combination of two types of currency that were historically issued in China.
Figure 3: A 50-yuan banknote issued by the Hangzhou Municipal Government of Zhejiang in 1945 (the 34th year of the Republic of China). The front and back feature, respectively, a portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the founder of the Central Bank of China, and a scenic view of the Liuhe Pagoda along the Qiantang River. In 1948, it was reissued as a Gold Yuan Certificate.
Figure 4: A banknote issued by the Fudian New Bank of Yunnan (Yunnan Fudian New Bank Exchange Certificate). During the Republican period, Fudian New Bank was a provincial local bank established by the Yunnan Provincial Government. In contrast to the banknotes of the Fudian Bank, which were commonly known as “Fudian currency,” the notes issued by Fudian New Bank were also colloquially referred to as “New Dian currency” or “New Dian notes.” They began circulating on September 1, 1932. In February 1944, the Ministry of Finance ordered that they be completely withdrawn from circulation within two years, but the notes ultimately remained redeemable until March 1949. The New Dian currency is considered the earliest modern credit currency in China.

seven havens with it's premise just sounds infinitely more interesting than the kuruk show....... now, i will be there for all the watertribe lore, because god knows we need more watertribe focus, but it's never gonna have the same level of stakes and mystery given we've explored the immediate era before and after this dude, and he lived for a whole of 33 years creating some controveries that we.... already explored.... like. why isn't it just a novel? with a whole new animated tv production they could have done so much in terms of taking us to a totally fresh setting far in the distant past, with whole new characters we know absolutely nothing about yet, and an outcome we couldn't necessarily tell from the onset.
like I guess it's fine to make a series about him as any character, but how much is there to tell? like yay, another teenage coming of age avatar series for YA boys. yawn. it sounds like there is basically nothing to spice things up. i hope it's a 12 episode miniseries then over and done. seven havens is actually so refreshing and interesting in comparison.
mako is an extremely talented fire bender and it makes sense he was able to lightning bend. He has the level headness, the discipline and the mindset to do it. He never bent with his rage or pain. Mako was immature in his relationships but that he never let that effect his bending.
