The bluish gray sleeves he wears on his forearms aren’t something we’ve seen on him before, but we do see such attire on water tribe characters like his daughter Kya, or Katara and avatar Korra!

His air nomad necklace (based on threngwas which are tibetan Buddhist prayer beads) incorporates water tribe beads instead of the brown ones we saw in the ATLA cartoon. This is the most culturally significant item he wears belonging to his people and he’s altered it to include Katara and her culture :)

Appa’s saddle as well as Aang’s glider both incorporate blue in their designs as well!

They wish she was treated terribly post ATLA so their weird ass headcanons of Aang being abusive could be canonically supported lol. Katara not having a statue was because TLOK was planned to only be one season and she was heavily featured in that season. The statues were meant to essentially be cameos of the other characters save for the couple of flashbacks where we saw them dealing with Yakone for plot reasons. The only other gaang member that even ends up appearing in a way as meaningful as Katara is Aang, which yknow, makes sense… he’s the avatar and Korra is his next incarnation. Him appearing to her at the very end of the season was nice to see and also important to her character so.

Also, Katara doesn’t live in the North. She lives in the Southern Water Tribe with her daughter Kya 😂 she specifically states that she moved to the SWT to be with her mom after Aang died. She keeps her company and probably helps tend to the home. Obviously Aang’s death must have been incredibly hard on her, otherwise I don’t think Kya would have been living with her for so many years. Tenzin lives in republic city which isn’t really that far from the SWT and he seems to visit often along with the grandkids. As for Bumi, it seems like he stays mostly out and about doing odd jobs or something. There’s not an indication that I can recall of how long he’s been away when he’s introduced in TLOK. It has been a few years since I’ve watched it all the way through so it’s possible I’m forgetting.

Katara appears to be a very highly regarded figure in the tribe. We know she’s a white lotus member, she clearly spent a lot of her time overseeing Korra’s training, she must have spent years training her herself as well. She would be surrounded by community there, and that’s probably part of the reason why she moved back to the SWT after Aang passed away. That and, she probably wanted to be there in the event the avatar was reincarnated there.

We know Katara is a respected master, we know she had political power, we know she helped rebuild the SWT and that she helped create republic city, we know she was a council member like Sokka eventually became as well, we know she trained 2 avatars in waterbending. That doesn’t sound like a boring or sad life to me. Sounds to me like she got everything she ever wanted. The only thing that’s sad about Katara is that her brother and the love of her life both passed away before her.

But? Aang had to pass away earlier for the show to exist at all bc he’s the avatar. Katara even is allowed a very sweet moment with Korra at the beginning of the show where she basically gives Korra her personal blessing as the new avatar. She even hugs Korra and it’s animated to parallel her and Aang 🥹

Putting it short: Katara understands Aang’s grief and pain only to an extent. She is also a victim of genocide and she also lost a parent to genocide like Aang, but she isn’t the only waterbender in the world, and at the end of the day, she has a tribe to go home to. Aang has literally nothing. Their experiences are similar, not identical.

Bc those shippers don’t think Aang is attractive so they can’t project onto Katara to self insert and essentially ship themselves with Aang, which is what they do with Zuko lmao. So everything Aang does and everything kataang embodies is bad and must be twisted to be bad to make zutara seem like the better option. They also seem to particularly hate the tropes kataang utilizes that you didn’t mention where they essentially gender bend the trope, because it isn’t typical for the female character to take those positions in romance media.

I mean, we literally have seen a mass amount of zutara shippers jumping ship and shipping kataang since the movie came out because Aang is now “hot”. Which yeah, he is, but it just goes to show how many of these people choose ships based not on substance but on what looks attractive to them. That and, it shows that many of these people will ship something if they themselves are attracted to one or both of the characters.

Nothing necessarily wrong with liking a ship for aesthetics just in general, but it does make these types of ZK’s incredibly hypocritical when they go out of their way to try and drag Aang’s character through the mud and shit all over kataang and the show, only to then come around and love it only once they personally think Aang is attractive. It shows that all the stuff they spew is shit they don’t even believe, and never did believe. They said it purely to make Zuko look like the better option because they found him more attractive at that time.
