Right, because 1) Zuko didn’t have feelings for Katara and 2) if he had, that would have actually destroyed his entire redemption arc. It would have made his redemption weak, would have turned him realizing he was doing something wrong and terrible because he’s learning and growing as a character into him choosing to switch sides to get the girl. It would have meant Zuko didn’t learn the error of his ways but rather chose to help the gaang because he wanted to be with Katara. Also, that would be pretty gross considering the fact that had Zuko had romantic feelings for her during the events of the show, he would have wanted to be with an indigenous girl his family and nation had and were still presently oppressing and colonizing, a girl whose mother was murdered by his father’s orders, etc. So he’d be in love with a girl his family is actively oppressing whilst unpacking his imperialism. That is just gross to me.

This is the biggest reason I’ll never like zutara and why I don’t even care for them as a platonic bond atp because the zutara fandom has destroyed even platonic ZK. If there is subtext to be read from Zuko and Katara, it is that of violence inflicted upon indigenous women and girls in times of war. Every violation inflicted upon Aang by Zuko is a violation inflicted upon Katara’s spirit, her soul. She affirms her bodily autonomy by repeatedly resisting Zuko and his pursuit of Aang, not by falling in love him.

The subtext of Zuko ultimately refusing to continue violating Katara despite his past of being an imperial soldier is not at all romantic to me and can never be. He helps right a deep wrong by taking her to confront her mother’s murderer, which is honestly the least he owes her after everything he’s done.

Zuko would never choose to be with Katara because if he views Katara in any sort of way, it’s as a little sister he never had the opportunity to have or repair things with like he wanted with Azula. That’s why it’s important that he make amends with Katara in some way he’s able to. She’s his sister’s narrative foil. That’s why him saving Katara’s life is so emotional. It’s not romantic, it’s the ultimate proof he’s truly changed for the better. He’s saving a little sister that is a reminder of what he doesn’t have from his actual sister that hates him enough to disgrace herself by trying to kill Katara to begin with.

Oh no anon I very much AM allowing myself this because I am a dom Aang truther and I am not a coward that is denying he has dominant potential like some people are because 1) Aang is super playful and teasing and 2) he constantly praises Katara and all of these qualities would definitely translate to him being dominant. Like they definitely switch sometimes but Katara is pretty dominant in day to day life so I think she would like Aang being dominant in the bedroom 🤭 Also the bed isn’t on the second floor of Katara’s apartment because it used to be when she moved in but then they ended up putting the bed through the floor so they had to move downstairs LMAO

Like? Katara’s behavior with Aang in the movie is not at all OOC. She acted like that with him the entire cartoon. They’re just mad because now that Katara and Aang are adults, they can’t argue that she’s being a mother to him because her behavior is clearly romantic and even more intimate given their ages (and it always was romantic)
