”using she/her pronouns for ralsei is misgendering” is functionally the same statement as “you can’t depict that white/light-skinned character brown that’s blackwashing!” And what I mean by this is that the reason whitewashing non-white fictional characters is bad is because you are erasing that character’s marginalized identity in favour of centring whiteness. It harms no one to depict a white character as non-white because whiteness is not a marginalized identity and white people are already centred + widely represented in art and fiction. Now the reason misgendering fictional characters is bad in the case of, say, Kris, is because Kris is non-binary, and misgendering them is erasing their (notably marginalized) identity as a non-binary person. Even in the absence of the incredibly blatant transfeminine coding (if you can even call it coding at this point) of Ralsei particularly in chapter 5, the people referring to Ralsei with she/her pronouns are not erasing any character’s marginalized identity. Men are not marginalized just for being men. This would be one matter if Ralsei was canonically a transgender man like Metatton but that straight up is not the case at all lmao. People on the internet she/her-ing Ralsei is causing zero harm to anyone you just don’t want your blorbo to be a trans girl

I don't understand why they're freaked out by book length. A kid can read one 300-page book or six 50-page books and it's the same amount of reading. Scholastic's bread and butter has traditionally been long, LONG series of relatively short children's books; it's known that bookworm kids like to read a lot. Nobody blinks an eye at a kid reading all sixty-ish Animorphs books or a bookshelf's worth of Goosebumps or The Babysitter's Club. But if the pages are stuck together into thicker books then suddenly that's difficult for a kid? 300 pages isn't even all that big for children's fantasy.

I ended up having a really interesting conversation with some people at the bus stop today. They were getting out of some sort of ‘clean and sober’ meeting and had starting saying how they were so bored because they didn’t have anything to do, and had to stay at home because all their old friends would pull them back. So I said something like, ‘So this is the time to do all the stuff your parents told you they didn’t have money/time for!’ “Whatcha mean?” “You know, like when you were five and you REALLY wanted to have that toy or do that thing and you were like, ‘Please mom please I gotta have this I gotta go do this’ and they went ‘Hell no you think I’m paying for that do you want to goddamn EAT?’ “ And this light went on in their eyes. The lady is going to go check thrift stores for an Easybake Oven and I told her about Wilton cake decorating classes. The dude is going to Griffith Park and ride horses, because, ‘I always wanted to be a cowboy, and you can’t drink when you’re on a horse ‘cause you’ll fucking die!’ Fuck it. This is what being an adult is. Sure it’s bills and work and relationships, but damn it, it’s also time to do the things you LIKE. I signed up for a free class/lecture on Water Gardens. I’m going.
