why is lake superior so dangerous? i cant find anything online that will give my access (not american!)
it's the largest freshwater lake on the planet by surface area, you could lose a couple of smaller countries in there and not even notice. (vs Europe)
on top of that, it's a Northern lake, so the water never really gets warmer than 50 F (10 C) even in the heat of summer, and it's famous for sudden violent storms that destroy ships and buildings alike. this thing has a MASSIVE body count because it's also a major shipping thoroughfare.

And when Bunjy says "the largest by surface are" what that means is: Lake Superior is a whopping 31,700 square miles (82,103 square km) of water. The only reason she is not an inland sea is because she is freshwater.
She has tides. She has rip currents, like an ocean does. You don't even have to go out on a boat to get got by her, all you have to do is step into her icy waters in the wrong spot. She has ice formations that aren't "icebergs" on the technicality that they didn't calve from glaciers, even though they look and act the same.

When I was in therapist school one of my profs said, "A lot of trauma needs 10 or 20 years before it's really ready to be worked through. Maybe longer." And at the time I was like: Oh Shit. I planned to be over my trauma and all better by the time I graduated!
Anyway, that was 10 or 20 years ago and jesus fuck, she was right.
Admittedly, this would be easier if a core part of my trauma wasn't the belief "I need to completely heal all my trauma before I'm allowed to pursue the things I really want in my personal life".
And this is despite going to therapist school where they explicitly walk you through how none of that works like that, at all, even a little.
one of the best pieces of advice I've ever heard (for myself, at least) is that if you're in a terrible mood and NOTHING is helping, then start doing the chores/responsibilities/job stuff/etc that you've been putting off. Will it put you in an even worse mood temporarily? Probably, but you're already pissed off, so you might as well double up on it at that point 😭 there's no loss. It's not like finally getting around to cleaning the house and scheduling appointments is going to ruin the good day that you aren't currently having to begin with 💀 And then, when the bad mood passes, you'll have gotten shit done and you'll feel a lot better later, even if in the moment you're having The Worst Time Ever about it.

prev I mean yes it is depressing when framed that way. But a lot of times the good day can still happen, it's more you need to work with the mood you have in the moment. If nothing else is helping at the moment it might still end up being the satisfaction of knowing you got a tedious chore done--or it might be just because you let time pass! (I have found for myself that sometimes when I'm mad there's a point where my brain just gets tired of being mad and it just. shuts off.) Even if it doesn't, you'll at least have the thing done. But if you focus on chasing a good feeling that's not coming you'll likely chase that away with frustration and not get anything done.
I definitely agree with the one person in the notes who was saying don't make calls where you might end up yelling tho. Like the chores/responsibilities/job stuff done in this mood should probably be boring, you-put-it-off-because-it's-tedious-but-it's-low-stress stuff.
