*grisping my thighs* im never bunny stressed when i do my bunny best. im never bunny stressed when i do my bunny best. im never bunny stressed when-
bunny update: forced myself to stay home from class and sleep in after an absolutely exhausting string of 60+ hour weeks and this is probably a no-brainer but. much less bunny stressed when i'm not trying to do my bunny best. give it your bunny 50% or bunny nothing sometimes. your mind and body will thank you
Getting bunny rest let's you feel your bunny best
Having a traumatic childhood means you cannot talk even objectively about your basic foundational experiences without it being "venting", even if you're not actually venting. You just straight up have a huge chunk of your life you can't talk about, full stop, without it being trauma dumping.
And it not being socially acceptable to talk about your own childhood is super alienating. Sometimes people want to know why, and any answer you can give them is going to be off putting.
It's to the point I get irritated when something I said is framed as venting when I'm literally just talking about my life experiences, doing my best to keep emotion out of it.
when I was in high school, I overheard two older students talking about a friend of theirs.
One of them said something like, "it doesn't bother me that [Friend] was in residential mental health treatment, I just wish they wouldn't talk about it ALL the time".
The other replied, "Well, that was all of last year for them. So when they say 'when I was in treatment,' it's like when you say 'last year'."
I try to remember that any time someone says something that sounds Shocking to me. sometimes one person's scary special crisis is another person's last year.
If you want to be accepting of mental illness, you need to accept the fact that some people's everyday lives are going to be terrifying to you. That doesn't mean they don't get to talk about it. Stop forcing hurt, isolated people to become even MORE hurt and isolated because you can't fathom toughening up a bit.
This doesn't apply to me because my strategy only fails when I don't have perfect control over my immediate surroundings and routines! Hah!
being abused or neglected really makes it clear how many things are skills that nobody really treats as. skills. exercising autonomy is a skill. listening to your body is a skill. resting is a skill. being liked and being loved are skills. nobody tells you how to do this shit because nobody even told me I was supposed to have learnt these things when I was a kid. I kind of just have to manually figure out what makes me freak out and work from there. unfair as shit

Ok so thanks for voting on this but i need you to reblog it too
I do think you lose your right to medical privacy when you decide to become a politician and it is mad fucked up that these people hold our lives in their hands and are allowed to disappear for months on end with no explanation. You need a doctor’s note to miss school for a cold but we have no clue if Mitch McConnell is dead or alive and Tom Kean was allowed to fuck off for 4 months without telling the public why. I don’t give a fuck about your privacy, you’re not protecting my privacy, if you’re leeching tax dollars and partying it up in a rich person rehab resort somewhere while your constituents vote against our access to healthcare, we should be allowed to know. Fuck you. I say this as a disabled person, I’m always having to explain the nature of my disability and the details of my health but we’re not allowed to know what the fuck is going on with these people.
have to explain the nature of your disability and details of health? no, you don't. that's illegal, protected by HIPAA, and if pursued constitutes as harassment actionable by law.
oh, honey
oh. you're not from here.
no, I am very much an American it is just that when you have a disease that attacks your intestines, you have no privacy
i once had a coworker who was endlessly harassed for her bathroom breaks. She had celiac and ibs. She was told by her manager and HR that celiac "isnt a disability". We had a disability awareness month presentation a week later that listed celiac on the slideshow. She quit. We worked for the united states government btw.
Yeah. I have ulcerative colitis and it is so embarrassing to deal with in office settings. When you have to take a 15+ minute bathroom break on company time, everyone assumes you’re playing games on your phone at best or snorting coke off the toilet seat at worst. It does not occur to people that you can genuinely fight for your life on the toilet multiple times a day through no fault of your own. They bully you out of the workforce by shaming you for needing reasonable accommodations and then mock you for not working. Your boss takes note of how long it takes you to shit but senators and congressmen are allowed to disappear from their jobs for weeks or months.
what people don’t understand about how adhd is disabling is that it’s not just getting temporarily distracted from, like, school work or hobbies. it’s getting distracted/being unable to motivate yourself to go to the doctor, eat regularly, do hygiene tasks, etc. it’s not knowing when or how long it will take you to do something, ANYTHING, and in many cases that thing is taking a shower or keeping your house from turning into a biohazard. it’s about being fundamentally incapable of controlling your attention and focus on anything, even and especially things you need to do to survive.

The most basic, intractable fact about mental illnesses is that you simply cannot willpower your way out of them. The only exceptions to this rule are the ones I have, which continue to disable me due to lack of determination and other grave personal flaws
otherwise interesting post ruined by the bold insistence that you can never accidentally abuse someone & that all abusive people are self-aware evil masterminds
I don't think my parents are aware that what they did was abuse. in fact I think one of the reasons they abused me was because they lacked the self-awareness, introspection, and education needed to realize what they were doing counted as abuse. if they did have more self awareness &etc, they would have likely stopped. it is not productive to insist they woke up in the mornings with the intent to psychologically torture a kid for no reason, when that is self-evidently not the case or within their motivations.
I'm speaking annecdotally here but I think many cases of abuse are like this. I think when reckoning with the reality of how abuse functions in our society, you must come to terms with the mundanity of it including the fact that abusive people are primed to overlook the harm of their own actions through the shield of mundanity and (lack of) intent.
having chronic pain/fatigue is so crazy because wdym I fed myself and put clothes in the washer and because of that I need to go have a lie down with my heating pad
what doesn’t kill me leaves a pit in my stomach that never goes away
i'll always meet someone described as not friendly, and it's just a person who doesn't smile or talk a lot unwarranted. I feel like I have to continuously explain to people that this is not inherently hostile behavior

what part of disability activism do u wish queer people knew/engaged in more?
Gosh, so much -
I wish they would include real accessibility when creating their "safe spaces". Dismantling social structures needs to be accompanied by breaking down physical barriers - you can't preach acceptance and equality past a flight of stairs. You can't say "all are welcome" when not all can enter the space and move about it freely.
(It is truly so devastating to enter a space that is suppose to be all about love and acceptance, and still feel strange and unwelcome. So many queers in my area don't even know how to Talk about my disability, let alone accommodate for it)
I wish they would read up more on disabled history and teachings, because they'll discover a plethora of transferable knowledge. For many (white, abled) people, coming into their queerness or trans-ness is their first introduction to medical rights, cure vs. care, public access and visibility, marriage rights, anti-sterilization, and more. But these issues are at the core of the disabled experience, especially for those born disabled (and poc), and our knowledge is vast, developed, and transferable.
(If you are unfamiliar with "nothing about us without us", the crip crawl, the social model, or the curb cut effect, you've not even covered Disability 101)
I wish for kinky queers to learn from kinky disabled folks! They make up such a large portion of the kink community, as the culture allows for so many assistive devices, tools, suspension, unique positions, and breaking down the many ways people can have sex! There are so many sexual educators who are disabled, and they have such valuable knowledge!
I wish queer people could invest as much time and energy celebrating July (Disability Pride Month) as they do June (Queer Pride Month). Be outraged that we still can't get married without losing our medical coverage! Celebrate the disabled folks in your life! Spread awareness and boost disabled educators, activists, and artists!!
