hey you. indie creator. get rid of the corporate execs and the imaginary writers room in your brain. the cynical youtube reviewers and disney fans who want sanitized uwu gays probably are never even gonna be even slightly aware of your existence. write those unrelatable blorbos and those messy themes and that weirdly sexy violence. you have no one to answer to but yourself. give yourself what you want and maybe some day, some 3 random lesbians from the internet whose interests you have somehow exactly hit will look at your thing and think its pretty cool, and in the end thats all you ever needed
I NEVER NOTICED THIS POST TOOK OFF everyone who said they rly needed to hear this, we r in this together babe we will get it, eye of the tiger lets go
"if we get another (this weeks problematic media) because of this fucking post im gonna kill you" you saw a post like this thats meant to encourage people to work on their art and that was your first thought? sounds like someone hasnt killed the cynical youtube critic in their brain <3 also im blocking you
My only real and valid writing tip is that you google every word you make up for your fantasy stories. That's It
there won't be any results though because you just made it up
One time I made up a name for a character and after googling it discovered it was a Zimbabwean slur
Wizards (1977)
[There were no true cats, dogs, or modern carnivores of any sort in the Oligocene. Hoplophoneus had no competitors higher in the evolutionary scale than itself. Stupid, slow, and awkward though it may have been in comparison with modern cats, it was nevertheless the most active flesh-eater of the time.]

just like real life
â ...That was when I first started to think that something might be wrong, because his laugh didnât⌠sound right? I, I donât know how to describe it, but it wasnât, it wasnât a human laugh...â
that take-out is going to be freezing by the time it gets home.
I still think about this comic all the time.
It's a Bandcamp Friday, so if you've been eyeing up seasons from podcasts like Inn Between, Sidequesting, The Dungeon Economic Model, Old Gods of Appalachia, specials from shows like Welcome to Night Vale, or music from shows like The Tower, The Lost Cat Podcast, or The Strange Case of Starship Iris, now is a great time to grab them, as what you're paying goes far more directly to the creators.
@eelerschoice's soundtrack is there too.
And it's glorious.
So I TOTALLY forgot to start writing for NaNo because... I'm working on a game for the show! I'm really excited for it, it's been months since I really sat down and coded in a way that feels like a big project.
It's really cool seeing things come together with each step in the dev process. I actually stream this on the show's server, though I might restart my twitch channel, I'm not sure yet.
ID: A screenshot of a video game. It's set in a Victorian style room with a desk, a journal, some books, and a typewriter on a desk. There is a chair to the right of the desk and text on the bottom of the screenshot that says "Episode 1".

im so fucking serious when i say that no one is crueler to visibly disabled people than girlies with blue wolfcuts and sharp eyeliner wearing hundred dollar sweaters from shein.
like. there's a weird misconception that it's old people, but i have never once had an issue with anyone over the age of, like, 55. they are fine with me muttering to myself or making weird faces or not hearing them the first five times they call my name. that's not a problem for them. when my brother goes out with a cane, they're the ones who compliment it, and tell him the spikes and ribbons are a cute addition.
yesterday this pink haired girl in the bathroom told me that i needed to stay away from movie theaters if i was going to act like a schizo. ten minutes later an 80 year old woman complimented me on my bright red hearing aids and said she wished she had that confidence when she got hers.
anyways to the anon who just said that maybe i shouldn't be in public spaces. thank you for proving my point
no offense but if you're low support autistic or adhd and you're thinking of adding on your story, i very much cannot stop you, but i beg of you to remember this post was about psychosis and physical disabilities. there's a problem with people taking over posts about physical and more stigmatized disorders and making them about low support autism and adhd
hey okay addressing something ive been seeing in the comments.
the blue hair wolf cut is not the point. what im trying to say here is that alt girls, especially queer alt girls, especially queer alt girls with autism or adhd or anxiety, have a tendency to claim they are above ableism. they say that they cannot be ableist because they are a woman, because they are queer, because they have autism or adhd or anxiety.
yes!!! My school is a prime example of this. I go to an art school full of queer neurodivergent alternative people, so I assumed it would be a supportive environment of my disability. Nope! They photograph me and post it online, record me and other disabled people and neurodivergent kids with higher support needs, they write graffiti about how Iâm faking. But then those same students will turn around and proudly call themselves leftists.
I love my friends, and I love my family, but oftentimes they act like I need to try harder, or take some ibuprofen and suck it up. Even in a family of left leaning people, who are all ND, I am treated differently.
My younger brother has incontinence issues and my other siblings tend to bully him for it ruthlessly, going so far as to tell his friends about it as if it's some moral failing.
I have very progressed mobility issues, and still my friends and family act as if I do not, or treat them as exaggerated.
I am autistic. I stim, my family and friends act as if it is gross or embarrassing.
I have tourettes, I ticc. My family and friends act as if it is embarrassing for them to be near me, and I am told to cut it out, or to calm down.
I have P-DID. I am unable to speak to my family about this, as they believe my trauma and pain are not enough to "count". That the trauma OF pain is not traumatic enough.
It tends to be the younger, left, alternative, progressive, "activist", queer, ND, who treat disabled people as worthless, as uncomfortable, as if their "comfort" matters more than my livelihood.
I hold nothing against my family, and nothing against my friends, but it is up to them to realize and reform those ideas.
To all able-bodied people, to all people without a stigmatized disorder/disability, to all the people who call themselves an ally, a supporter, to all the family members and friends:
You are not immune to ableism.
You are not immune to being an asshole just because you have anxiety, ADHD, LSN autism. You are not better than high support needs people, psychotic people, physically disabled people, people with stigmatized disorders and disabilities.
You are not better than the teen with fibro.
You are not better than the adult who uses AAC.
You are not better than the kid with a rollator.
You are not better than the person with psychosis.
You are not better than the autistic person with HSN.
You are not better than the person in a power chair.
You are not better than the person with a G-bag.
You are not better than the person with a feeding tube.
You are not better than the person with hearing aids.
You are not better than the person with visual impairments.
You are not better than the person with seizures.
You are not better than, worth more than, or deserved more than a disabled person. No matter how uncomfortable they make you.
You are not better than us because you're "special".
You are not immune to ableism.
Ways to Skip Time In Your Stories
Finding ways to skip time in stories can feel challenging. Writers often worry itâll make their work feel too amateur or negatively affect their pacing.Â
The truth is that every author includes ways they skip time to maintain their pacing and plot. Check out a few ways to do it with confidence.Â
1. Start a New Chapter
Yes, itâs really that simple. Go back to your favorite books and note how each chapter ends. Youâll likely find a few of these tricks that transition the story in ways that match the storyâs flow.
Ideas to End a Chapter
The protagonist goes to sleep (likely overused, but practical)
The characters end a conversation
One character informs another of a plot twist
Unexpected action occurs, like a car crash
2. Emphasize the Season
You donât need to tell the reader exact dates or hours to pass the time. You could mention the season instead.
If a scene or chapter ends in the summer and you need your plot to start in winter, make your protagonist mention something about the leaves changing color and giving way to snow before your action picks up again. It will only take a sentence or two, so itâs also an effective method for short stories.
3. Visualize a Movie Montage
Imagine watching a movie about a character who goes on a summer adventure. They backpack through Europe, but they have to take a flight to get there.Â
You likely wouldnât see them standing in airport security lines, napping in a terminal or watching a full movie on their flight to their destination. Instead, youâd get a montage of them driving to the airport with a shot of their plane cruising over the open ocean.
Writers can do the same thing, minus the soundtrack in the background. Describe how your character got to their destination when a new chapter or scene starts. Your readers will get the general idea and appreciate getting straight to the plot that made them pick up your story in the first place.
Here are a few ideas to do this in just a few sentences:
One delayed flight and a bad airplane dinner later, I was walking out of the Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport with an aching back and excited heart.
My trip began with the perfect flight. I got an entire row of seats to myself, which made napping through the trip much easier. A flight attendant roused me awake when it was time to land. I couldnât believe how fast Iâd arrived in Athens that quickly.
My flight was just long enough to catch up on the movies Iâd been missing over the last year. The landing gear bounced along the runway in Rome just as the Barbie credits started flashing across my iPad.
4. Showcase Some Confusion
Sometimes we arenât aware of what time it is. We only know time has passed. That might be the best way to make time pass in your story if your protagonist gets confused, caught by surprise, or otherwise discombobulated.
These are some examples:
I woke up with a bad taste in my mouth. The sun was already peaking in the clear blue sky. How long had it been since my explosive video call with my ex the night before?
The time machine landed with a thud that knocked me to the ground. The control panel exploded in shimmering sparks. What year was it?
Working a double shift always left my brain spinning. I left work, walking across the parking lot with only the stars watching my back. I could feel the hours aching in my feet, but didnât care what time it really was. I just needed to sleep.
5. Employ a Phrase
There are many quick phrases you can use to make your time jumps immediately clear. Consider using a few of these when you feel creatively stuck:
Later that morning
A few weeks later
After months of trying
Six hours later
The following week
As the store closed for the night
-----
There are many other ways to make time pass in a story. Starting with these could help you figure out the best way to move your story forward without disrupting its pacing.Â
Remember, youâre in control of your story at all times. Thereâs always a way through creative challenges if you take a deep breath and try something new.
but with if I did actual tiktoks as a person
Haha jk I'm too shy for that
But like
What if
(have been considering teeny tiny VA vlogs and sound design stuff in particular for a while. But I envy people who get on camera, one day... One day perhaps I'll show off my neat vintage and thrift finds and do neat cosplays)
remember; 'peculiar' is a synonym for both 'weird' and 'specific'
the parts of you that make you odd are also the parts that make you yourself. don't try to file them off. that's you you're scattering to the wind, there. treasure yourself, you little weirdo, in all your weirdo ways.
i want to coin a phrase that's the opposite of writer's block. call it the muse's fire hydrant. thirty thousand story ideas are being beamed directly into your brain and if you don't write them all at once you will die.
yknow what i mean?
