365 Creatures: Week 16!
A post within the actual week in question! What a concept. This week was also a little markings heaving (coughcoughEchocough), but the fact that I wasn't crippled with cramps definitely helped. The raptors are my favorite, though, not even a question.
106. Kafit
The Kafit is so funny because I have literally zero idea how it appeared on my list. Not on The List, but on my 'list of cool looking alien creatures' that I made in like... middle school. I think I used the Alien wiki or something? But somehow, this bird landed there. I could have sworn that it was a Star Wars creature. I've only ever heard the name 'Animorphs' with no idea about any of it. But a six-winged fancy bird? Yeah, I guess that'll get my attention.
107. California Leaf-Nosed Bat
My first choice for International Bat Appreciation day probably would have been some sort of flying fox, but I've already got one of those later in the list, so I went for a different group! And I think leaf-nosed bats are so cool for their little noses. Plus, I had to idendify a specimen on this for my Mammology class a few years ago. And I appreciated any animal with an easy to remember species name. So thanks, californicus.
108. Velociraptor
It's National Velociraptor Awareness Day, so, uh... be aware of those raptors, I guess? Hey, if there was a raptor nearby, I'd certainly want to be aware of it. But this combines three of my favorite raptors in media. First, of course. my girl Echo. Favorite of the Raptor Squad. Even if her markings did, indeed, take a year off my life. Then an actual velociraptor of appropriate size and feathering! I just love the fact that they were just small, fluffy, deadly little guys. And the markings? Based off the Primeval dromeosaur, of course. Named Abby for obvious reasons.
109. Flat-Tailed Viperwolf
My plan was always do to a Viperwolf, I think they're fun. And then I found the flat-tailed variant and yes, absolutely, that went on my list in an instant. It gives me an excuse to do more fun colors! And... yeah. more complicated markings, but like I'm already doing so many markings this month. What's one more?
110. Dawnwing Moth
I was between the Dawnwing and Bladewing moths, and by some miracle, I didn't just do both of them on one sheet for once. Instead, I kinda combined their designs. Like a hybrid moth! The body of the Dawnwing, with the markingd and colors leaning towards Bladewing. Either way, pretty alien bug is pretty.
111. Greater Krayt Dragon
Just an average, kinda stripy, countershaded design. Because sometimes I need something simple and good. The Krayt dragons have a lot of different designs, but I've always liked the more dragon-y ones. I'll play around with color ideas, or maybe just make it a Grey Stone.
112. Upper Plains Direhorse
By some grace, the Direhorse wasn't even that bad. Maybe because I chose a design that wasn't full of complicated splotches and stripes? Maybe. But the red direhorse from Frontiers of Pandora is a solid design. Though that could be my red-black-combo bias talking again. I'll take it, though!
Okay this week wasn't so bad. Which is probably why I finally remembered to make these posts for Tumblr! I do have to get ahead for my trip this month, so maybe I'll actually stay ahead! Because we can hope.
