okay but let’s TALK ABOUT IT. I feel like after reading the books I’ve been insanely awed by how the show portrays moments Hollanov run against the language barrier. It’s there but it’s sooooo subtle like here.

Why does he say ‘lovers’?

it’s polite; the Canadian way to say “we’re fucking” in a way that won’t spook anyone in the room.

he knows how much this moment means to shane, how much shane loves his parents, and wants them to meet HIM not just a brash cocky fighter but a true lover boy because why hide that side too at this moment????

it’s the most poetic English answer to the lack of definition and a semantic direct line from ‘we love one another’ to ‘we are lovers’ — distinctly gender neutral which his bi ass would default to…so much so the mans doesn’t get it twice UNTIL he wraps his mind around what shane would prefer with a different connotation which is “boyfriend”!
