Was saying the other day to a mutual how I hate that the AMC show has ascribed a negative connotation to an innocent painting, and they said something like:

"Well it's just like this show to take a piece of art that's not theirs and ascribe their own entirely different meaning to it disregarding the original intent."

And the worst part? yeah there has been so much debate on how "Armand is whitewashed in this painting by Marius", for clearly obvious and visible reasons.. BUT the ironic part it.. that was not even Rolin's intention! Like he wasn't even trying to make some sort of intelligent racial critique here, or imply Marius did that, and he didn't even see it himself or intend it as such. He simply didn't put any thought into it at all. I remember him specifically describing at ATX festival 2024 how he just sent some assistants out and said: "Go to Louvre and find Assad's face". and than they just ran around for hours and chose this half-assed. Cuz they honestly thought it looks like Assad and they struck gold (?) That was the depth of their consideration of it. it's literally production's fault for randomly choosing that and thinking it's a good match. Because THEY were incompetent and blind and racially insensitive.

It's only after the fandom raised the debate on how the painting is not really appropriate and than started inventing bs on how "Marius is the evil racist that did this on purpose" is that they probably realized they made a mistake and probably jumped on the same bandwagon...

(Marius even gets the blame for Rolin's fuck ups lol)

This is harder and harder for audiences to grasp, and I sympathize, honestly, because we have become more keen over the last couple of decades, and we've noticed how many stories have been sold to us as an ideal we should reach for that would be harmful to us if we did so - stories intending to propogandize values centered around control or subjugation

but you have to learn to recognize when that's what is happening and when a work is simply clumsy, indulgent fantasizing shared with others, and how to settle your jerking, trigger-happy reflex when you notice something in a work of fiction that shouldn't be emulated in real life. That's not what fiction is. That is not, at base, its purpose or intent.

recognizing that a situation would be abusive if it were real does not mean that all stories where those situations happen are inherently ABOUT abuse. Unless we have reason to believe the writer is indeed trying to propagandize societal control on some level, then the story is about what the writer says it's about, because it's not real

there's no one with agency involved, there is only what the fictional fantasy writer wanted to happen in their fictional fantasy world. You being able to identify "if these two people existed this relationship would be abusive" doesn't change the intent of the text. It's GOOD that you can identify that! It's actually excellent! It's a necessary component to experiencing fiction and keeping yourself safe in the real world, but it doesn't change the intent of the text

You are absolutely, Capital R Right: if these people existed and treated each other this way, it would be abusive. But they don't exist. They are Anne Rice's Barbies, and she makes them kiss rough and mean and murderous and underage and incestuously, but through it all they remain Barbies, and she had zero responsibility to explicitly designate those Barbie relationships as abusive for the benefit of a reader who feels like they can't trust a text unless it spells things out for them in real-world morality parables.

Abelas Tarot card - finished!

The card symbolizes Fate and Destiny with wisdom behind if you are able to understand its meaning. Life goes in a cycle; each beginning leads to an end but each end leads to a beginning. Also Fate is a very open “option” there is no fix Fate to a person, Fate is depends which side you are standing at the Wheel and it implies that you are able to forge your own Fate - if you are able to see behind the “mechanism”.

The flower is a yellow Zinnia which represent “Remembrance” - a symbolical blood suppose to give impression that remembering for something for so long alone beside being a burden should be shared.
