Toph’s bending allows her to full access her world the same way my mobility aids do, or my medication does. There are times when due to inaccessible surroundings that her aids are rendered harder or impossible to use. Not unlike my own greatest enemy, stairs. However, when she is fully accommodated she’s able to be just as successful and thrive just as much as an able-bodied person albeit differently. Which is the ultimate goal of assistive technology.

I know this is more like two different drawings but I drew them together and together they shall stay. I was inspired listening to a Slovenian song (Bela klop by Zala Kralj). It made me go “must draw” like a frankenstein’s monster. I’ll pop the lyrics on my artblog @fihuli. I translated them for any curious souls - they don’t rhyme though. The singer is a woman but I can imagine Al singing it… I made their mom a bit darker than she is in the show. I think I went with the skin tone I would choose for myself. My subconscious wants me to protect these two boys. XD And I’m not entirely sure why I made Al clutch Ed’s coat in the bottom pic. Out of protectiveness or maybe out of guilt? I kinda understand the coat as a symbol of their sin. Whatever it is, I think it ended up looking like Ed’s a second away from waking up from a suckerpunch. Tell me it’s not so! Also tried a weird technique with this one where I did the lineart after I colored the drawing(s). I kinda like it. I might do that more. It left messier lineart but I think messier linearts make pictures more alive.
