the demonization of visible inner labia in the modern zeitgeist makes zero fucking sense to me. don't get me wrong, pedophilic beauty standards are absolutely the vehicle for this stigma to thrive, but this all arose to prominence when australian censorship laws banned porn magazines from showing inner labia because it was seen as "too salacious," even though the entire point of a porn magazine is to titilate and arouse males. and the effects this had on the australian porn industry spread to the entire western world.
and now, we have a notable rise of women undergoing surgical mutilation to replicate the look of a pre-pubescent vulva. there is a social contagion of "outies" being seen as disgusting, a sign of promiscuity, likened to meat flaps and roast beef and other unappetizing euphemisms. "innies" are the ideal: clean, neat, unassuming. they are the default in all the sexual media we consume. they are photoshopped and snipped into existence.
this demonization has become so widespread and normalized that "outies" have become a category of porn you must purposefully seek out, a fetish relegated to the bowels of rule34 and deviantart. ironically, studies show that "outies" are actually more common amongst women, which makes their demonization that much more insidious and harmful.
i would like to remind you that the labia minora only start growing during puberty. it is a sign of sexual maturity in women, and society has deemed it unacceptable. a medical condition in need of fixing. pedophiles, the plastic surgery industry, porn, and misogyny require the existence of this rhetoric, so it continues to infect us. but these avenues all reach the same dead-end: female subjugation.
tl;dr: women with "outies" i fucking love you and you do not need to change anything about your vulva. for a refresher on what real, everyday women look like, please visit the labia library (nsfw link). it's an amazing palate cleanser.
