I love Mirabella too much.

And tbh, the reason I love Mira as much as I do is because she’d be the best queen. We have even Jules herself confirming it in book five. Mira cares about all gifts, she cares about all her people. She’s got a firm grasp on history and the island’s religion, she’s a peacemaker. She brings people together, and she’s got a bleeding heart. But she’s strong enough to grit her teeth and do what needs to be done. She also had the grace and wisdom to step aside when she realized larger forces had a different plan. Unfortunately for her, previous generations corrupted her line, preventing her from being able to show what she could have done.

Could it be that the best blacksmiths, probably a gift less or war gifted person that was at Sunpool rather than Bastian City when Rho sacked the place made her a prosthetic? Something that fills out her trouser leg or even something like Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon.

Mirabella is the Most good. That’s why I love her. I love characters who are good and kind and loving, and stay that way despite everything they’re put through. It is through her eyes that we get to fully feel the weight of what queens are made to do in their ascension year; she’s the only one who remembers her sister’s after all.

she’s pulled in so many directions: honoring the temple might mean not doing what is good for the island, doing good for the island might go against her moral compass, and all of that toys with her emotional stability.

on top of that, she’s an anchor. she brings bree and elizabeth into her circle, she is kind to merchants in her city when she doesn’t have to be. arsione barely remembers her, but when they first meet after ten years, arsione is tempted to take her sister’s hand. mira inspires her sister to remember her and kat. she brings billy to her side despite his determination to hate her. even jules admits how good a queen she would’ve been. finally, she extends a sisterly hand to kat, who has been so alone for so long, after everything.
