Every time I go on instagram all i see is doom posting and I realize how many years the algorithm spent learning juuuust how to make me panic and engage with the post because I'm scared. Like I rarely go on there now, and I feel like I live more in, I don't know...reality. News and shit is so important but the way world events are pushed on instagram algorithmically feels sooooo predatory. Like im opening my mouth and letting myself be fed by the big fucking meta spoon, designed make me hopeless and apathetic.
Anyway, world scary, fascism baaad, climate change terrifyingly real. I don't want to process that in small social media bursts of terror and panic, then try to forget about it for the rest of my day, because it's all just too much to function.
For years now I feel like I've had to remind myself again and again to feel the fear and accept the grief and try to let it move me and not freeze me into complacency. And that's difficult to keep doing, but I find it to be soooo worthwhile.
I can be scared and devastated while also having hope and dreaming for a better future.
People aren't wrong for the reactions I see on my feed, it's just not the only corner of the nuance that is, coping with the horror we'll say?
This isn't me saying just pull up your bootstraps and carry on, that's not a choice most people can make. But,,,, don't get distracted.
