i, soshi, am very Normal about Things.

one last post before my ween week magic runs out and i send this thing back to the grave...at least until i use my december month magic to bring it back...or maybe my november month magic idk yet

anyways, i watched this a while back and i really liked its aesthetic. i love surreal retro-style stuff...this really gave me a lot of "point-and-click edutainment" kinda vibes so i thought this would appeal to a cool niche(?) group somewhere around here.

i talked about ted wiggin before but i wanted to give him a proper "stuff soshi thingy what" post so...here goes!

ted wiggin is an animator who makes his own softwares for animating and compositing his works—you can check out some of his stuff here! some of his more recent works use inbetweening software like lizard ladder, which gives his stuff a really unique aesthetic.

i know tweening gets a lot of flak for being too lazy (for lack of a better word) but using inbetweening this way is really cool, i think. it really fits with mimt's neon colors, and it makes it look pretty trippy too!

saw this pilot floating around tumblr so i gave it a watch and i really liked it! i've been doing quite a few animatics myself so it was interesting to see how more experienced animators go about it.

i will admit the story was a little hard to follow at first? but all in all i think it has a lot of potential! the main characters feel pretty dorky, but in an endearing kinda way, and i really like the whole aesthetic the pilot has with its character and background designs.

love this goofy little series. i love moe's design, i love this type of quirky humor, and i love love love the cartoons!

i think the use of existing media adds such a playful charm to this show. like i actually thought the cartoon segments were just emulating old cartoons, but apparently they're actually real shows? the whole thing feels like an animated collage, and i love collages.

this is a little cartoon created by the kecskemét animation film studio, which actually started as an offshoot of pannónia film studio if i understand correctly. if pannónia sounds familiar, that might be because they created the rabbit with checkered ears, which i wrote about a while back. funny how things come together!

anyways...i've only seen a few episodes of this but i really like this show's art style, especially the way the backgrounds are designed. "geometric storybook-type art styles" are kind of a niche interest of mine.

favorite episode so far is..."the fox princess." because shapeshifting genderfluid fox is such a diva <3

do you like taco bell? do you like film festivals? this was made for something called the taco bell film festival (unaffiliated with any fast food restaurant chain).

this was made by jordan michael blake, who is an american filmmaker who does live-action stuff and also animated stuff too. he has an animated film, "paradise man (ii)," coming up for sundance, and it looks pretty cool!

back to delta airlines...oddly enough, this film does a good job at actually making you feel safe? or saft, i guess. the slow tts voices, the parts about love and fear...i guess also the way they comfort you when everyone dies. it's hypnotic in a way.

with the power of ween week magic, i have raised stuff soshi thinks you should watch from the dead! these ones are gonna be a lot more bite-sized but hopefully you still enjoy them.

i actually talked about peter millard before, but i want to talk about him again cuz i really like his stuff! there's something oddly soothing about watching his doodly little fellas wobble around.

millard is an english animator and he does a lot of really fun, abstract animations like these. i distinctly remember watching this in my animation class and someone said this looked like something that would be made by somebody who was, and i quote, "mentally unwell."
