the online identity and gimmick-ifying of autism is so odd. I'm diagnosed with autism and yet I barely identify with any stuff I see about it anymore. It feels like autism is being rebranded as the Silly Guy Disorder that gives you smart and beautiful hyperspecific interests. it's not that I mind silly jokes or being lighthearted about being autistic- but when the entire social movement is based around marketing us this way, I just can't help but feel isolated from it. it feels like I'm not the right kind of autistic. I'm not marketable and digestible to common audiences, and therefore I am discarded by the movement in the name of progress and acceptance. it feels foul.

#I've been thinking about this a lot lately #the online “movement” is more of an influencer sphere #which centers one specific presentation of autism #and it's usually white people with low support needs #my volunteer work in the autism space is with a local organization #and I feel like that is much more impactful in terms of moving forward in educating people and helping other autistic people #there's more diversity in the local org too #people of all ages are served and the discussions that happen are a mix of autistic people of different backgrounds and support needs #and professionals who serve people with disabilities who want to learn more and hear feedback and have conversations #and the mixed group allows for more brainstorming of solutions to help people or navigate the system #I just feel like this is more effective than what I see online and much more inclusive #I think the online world has become an echo chamber #and some of those people can be quite racist or tone deaf about intersectionality which is incredibly hypocritical #see the whole “Embrace Autism” events of late #they really messed up and then just doubled down on their racism and wrongheadedness #I'm also tired of the notion that all autistic people are so caring and empathetic and have a strong sense of justice #there's a certain autistic man with the initials E.M. who we all know is evil #thanks for saying this OP #real talk #autistic #autism community #I also find that I don't fit in with the cutesy version of autism these creators inadvertently present #I support their right to talk about their own autism experiences #but I wish they would give some room for other autistic people to share too

Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.

It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.

You want me to talk to Claude so that you can make Claude respond for you. It is rude to expect me to talk to a chatbot when I wanted to talk to you.

Maybe I’ve been working MORE THAN double as hard for MY WHOLE LIFE and it’s led me to immense burnout & caused me to develop several MORE disabilities!! Maybe I should be ACCOMMODATED so I don’t have to KILL MY BODY AND BRAIN over trying to do what abled people can do!! Maybe I DON’T have to work double as hard!! Maybe if there’s the option to let me NOT work double as hard, I should have it, because I’m already working double as hard JUST TO SURVIVE!!

Friendly reminder as we get closer to the launch of the ModRetro M64. ModRetro is owned by Palmer Lucky, a self described “Radical Zionist” who fundraises for Donald Trump.

Palmer Lucky also has another company, called Anduril Industries, that manufactures and sells AI powered weapons and surveillance systems. ModRetro even sells Anduril branded gameboys that were made from the same metal that they use to manufacture attack drones.

Don’t buy this thing. A 200 dollar Nintendo 64 clone is not worth your soul.

The reason I’m bringing this up now is because there seems to be a new marketing push happening for this device. It’s all over my feed on TT and IG right now.

They seem to be pushing the fact that there are new Nintendo64 games being made for the M64. This is very misleading because any game that runs on the M64 will run on a real Nintendo 64.

There’s also been new games coming out for the Nintendo 64 for years. ModRetro didn’t make this happen. They’re just publishing a few games. The Nintendo 64 Homebrew scene has been thriving on its own.
