Secrets of a Teenage Man (22k) rewriting

Now that I'm trying to draw faces properly, I've seemingly lost the ability to draw clothes.

This is the closest I've drawn of detail lately, but it's still very plain compared to what I was doing before.

I just wonder if I got scared to draw more detail knowing if I messed up and I'd make more work on myself. When I was younger, it didn't matter, but now I don't have school where I just wasted eight hours of my day doing nothing and spent it drawing or writing.

However, I did try this new style out and do prefer this heavily over making lineart.

I just want my coloring to not look too neat and clean. I want it to look a little messy or natural for lack of a better description.

Like the line wobble of old cartoons or the bleeding of watercolor.

I still have no grasp of depth, but this was a test to see a new style I'd like to color my art with.

I think it came out okay and Bo is very cute still

I was planning on posting a few today, but I gotta take it easy. So I will try and limit myself to only making this today sigh

This team was begging to be made for him. Maybe a little too on the nose, but that never hurt anyone.

This just occurred to me that I can make "fan" content of my own creations.

The Eagles Jackie and Shadow are something me and my mom love looking at. It's nice to just see nature existing and learning about what they do to survive.

But of course not. People just want to destroy the wildlife and disturb everything in the area with no regard to how it maybe affect things down the line.

I can never do anything in these situations, but maybe I can try for this one. While I can't do much. If my one share gets anyone else, then I can know I tried my best.

As a resident black person, people seem unable to describe our features without being dated, intentionally/unintentionally disrespectful, or just comparing us to food lol

So, here's a list of things if you wanna describe black features without diving into food or outdated terms.

Some of these are just what I use, so if you don't like them that's okay! These are just some that make me happy when I hear them.

For hair like this

I usually describe it as fluffy, cloud-like, and puffy.

Personally, big or poofy never made me feel the best, but I guess it depends on the context. You tell me.

To describe it's shape or form, I say framed or surrounded his/her/their face. I think of it like a flower almost.

For skin, I'm light skinned (fair or whatever you wanna call it) and I usually just say tan because I don't think my skin tone is much different than a white person.

But for darker skin tones, I love describing darker skin tones with the sunset because look at this

It's gorgeous and I love seeing how the sunset outlines darker skintones 😄

Usually I describe it by saying their skin absorbed the light/sunset

Skin soft like the night

Shimmering skin (I know, I know, get your Twilight jokes out already)

Another thing that doesn't have to do with writing per say, but has to do with something I'm seeing a lot on the internet and that's a lack of diversity with black hairstyles, skin tones, and designs.

I'm a learning artist, so I can't do exactly what I want to, but here's my attempts at drawing something I think is realistic to afrostyles ^-^

There was probably more I wanted to say, but my brain is melting as always. Hopefully, this helped you a bit though. Feel free to share any ways you all describe black characters. I'm always wanting to learn more ways since I don't like using the same things over and over.

A beautiful reflection of the world

A perfect copy of those she saw

She was a spectacle to behold

Anything anyone wanted to see

She could show it to them

She showed exactly what everyone wanted to see

Smiles when they bloomed

Frowns as they appeared

Tears as they fell

She was perfect

Despite that

She could not elate in that joy

She could not feel that frown

She could not take on that sadness

All she could do was reflect

Reflect what everyone wanted to see

And nothing they did not

This is the tale of a mirror girl

Without a face of her own

I originally was just calling them creatures, but I didn't like the since often that's used negatively. I didn't want that since these beings were going to a positive for e in the story.

So, I came up with Moni, which I hated since the first time I made it.

So, literally at the end of last year, I came up with the name I'm going to use from now on

Mystics

Cassie in Soundless Masses is a cynical, borderline nihilistic girl who's just... kind of there. She doesn't have any grand goals, wants, or desires. Her main aspiration within the story is simply to live a normal life free of fabricated oppression and authorian benefits.

One of her biggest goals is to start a life with her true love Bushimaru.

She's never had a loving family in which she feels a part of.

Because of this, I couldn't make her the main character. Her goals were too self-centered (which I wish people wouldn't vilianize so much) and therefore unrelatable.

However, I did make one of my favorite romances in a story because of how aligned these two are. I just wish to see more romances like these where the biggest issue is just external. Getting a job to support each other or growing up to get past immature mindsets.

I think it's overdone to see the romances that just fall into place perfectly without seeing the more realistic side of things. That sometimes it's not enough to just love someone and you have to step away and work on yourself if you want to keep what you love.

I drew this because my boyfriend said it was hard for him to imagine these characters when I was just talking about them. So, I was inspired to draw a little epilogue.

At this point, I still wasn't even attempting to draw hands, I can report that I am working on it now but I wanted this to be a pretty playful image all things considered.

It starts from the center out. Fang is trying to "support" Dani from "falling" over. It's in quotes because we all know that it doesn't look like anything's happening lol. Cassie is being "pushed" over and her sweetheart isn't worried she's going to fall over. He's just happy life is only going to be better from now on. Ami is just trying to see what's going on.

Speaking of that...

Dani thinks it's hilarious that Emeryk's unrequited love has never faded since they were in highschool. Meanwhile, Cece also can't believe it... seriously, you know what they say: bad touch.

I wanna do something like this with all my main cast of characters, this was just the only one I got around to doing. I've also gotten a bit better at coloring since I made this, so I may recolor this as well.

I guess I just wanted to talk about a few of them!

Today I’ll be sharing Bushimaru with you all.

He’s a more recent love interest I made, but I put a lot of effort into his design because I wanted to tell a lot with his expressions and demeanor rather than explain his harsh upbringing.

Within his own story, he’s a “Yakuza” Oyabun or family head.

His clan was made by his father years ago and him and his older brother, Katsuhito, are moving into positions of power.

They are known as the Senra Clan.

Within his story, Soundless Masses, he’s tasked in a lower role as the family head within the school he goes too. His family has "ties" with the board of education so they have a pretty large influence within the school. His family found this to be a perfect place to start developing their kids for their future roles in the clan.

Bushimaru doesn’t like the unforgiving rules he’s been subjected too as he’s been unable to make friends or have someone in his life who isn’t afraid of him. Everyone is some mixture of respect by fear or secret hatred.

However, only one girl has been the outlier.

Cassie has no understanding the hierarchy system a Yakuza family has. She just sees Bushimaru as a kid with strict parents. He takes an interest in her when they were kids before they finally become friends in their late preteen years.

They become inseparable after that. Everyone at their school knows them to be the ones who are going to end up together. Bushimaru already had a crush on Cassie at their first meeting, but Cassie isn’t too concerned about romance/dating until he hits a growth spurt and she starts to realize she actually did like him all along.

Nothing changes in their relationship, in fact, they both even assume they like the other, but are too shy to confess.

Once in high school, Cassie realizes Bushimaru has a load of responsibility on him; even learning about the gravity of the city they live in and the school they were drafted into. Knowing the world they live in doesn't have happy endings, they both come to terms with something: they don’t want the other to get hurt.

I just love yapping about their relationship to be honest, it’s one of my favorites I’ve written and I hope one day you all will be able to read about them and their tricky situation.
