Infatuation: Loving the Unknown
I used to think relationships had to begin somewhere.
A spark. A moment. A small opening where two people decide to move closer.
But sometimes, it ends before it ever begins.
There was someone who caught my attention not long ago. At first, every conversation felt like a breadcrumb leading somewhere. I replayed his words, searched for meaning in the pauses, convinced there was still another version of him waiting to be discovered. The chemistry seemed to build itself in the spaces between what I knew and what I imagined.
Then something shifted.
His hesitation stopped feeling mysterious. His choice of words stopped feeling deliberate. The little inconsistencies I once excused began arranging themselves into a pattern. And once I could predict the pattern, the anticipation disappeared.
It felt abrupt, but I suspect it wasn’t.
Sometimes I wonder what that says about me.
