So me and a friend played Firewatch for the first time, and we got the camera and we got the conspirancy theory and we were like "oooh this is to get Clues and Evidence" and wondering how the system of Detecting pictures by zone worked in game, we ended up just using it for #Evidence. The forest was already burning when we noticed the camera was just to get very nice pictures and we were like "the pics we took are gonna appear in the credits arent they" "oh no. we didn't take any nice picture" "shit the dead kid is going to be there. i shouldn't had taken that photo i regret it now" "this is why delilah told us to not take creepy pictures we didn't listen..." and then took a pic of the helicopter in flames. i never felt more like "oh boy we played this game completelly wrong" but maybe it added to the Themes idk

i've heard people saying the ending is anticlimactic but okay. okay maybe it is! but god if it isn't heartbreaking? ned goodwin killed his son. maybe by accident, we'll never truly know. and he's already so fucked up that he's even more fucked up by this that he fully goes hermit in the woods! and the isolation in that made him do fucked up shit like spy on henry and delilah and make transcripts of their conversation!! and the thing is the game does really well to convey that sense of isolation to the player by never showing you anyone up close. you see the teens swimming in the lake and they're so far away from you you can barely see them. you see ned goodwin flashing a light at you but he's far off on a cliff in the dark. you can only hear delilah, but you never see her, even in the end, at her tower. you see bits and pieces of people that they left behind, but never the people themselves! and then you go on the rescue helicopter and guess what. the rescuer's wearing a helmet!!! so even when you finally do see a person up close you can't even see their face.

and then you think about ned going off deeper into the forest, leaving his belongings (including the picture of his son!!!) to burn in the fire.
