there's this book written in the 1870's by an abolitionist minister, Moncure D. Conway, and I find it super interesting. it's called 'Demonology and Devil-lore', and it's basically this guy's theories as to how various deities evolved. keep in mind this is all just a single dead dude's opinions, so a big spoonful of salt is required, but he says that older deities (like Old Testament God) rarely have a clear split between good/bad, and can deliver both with the same hand, and that the later splitting of good vs evil (like New Testament God, who's quite a bit nicer) can sometimes be attributed to politics. because if you're attempting to use religion as a form of control, it's better to position your guy as the Good guy. and he goes over how various demons are just the bastardized remnants of gods from conquered/colonized religions that have been swallowed by christianity, and then makes an attempt to exhaustively categorize them by type (this is where the book gets a bit dull. as an aside, this guy would have loved Pokemon.)
anyway, it got me thinking about how religious syncretism would work in a world where gods were REAL, and so that became the subplot of The Ignoble Invasion of Prince Proculo.
it's set in 'fantasy Britain', which is a land that has experienced wave after wave of conquest and colonization. about mid 1500's, so we've had the Bell Beaker people, the Celts, the Romans, all the way to the current spread of Christianity, sorry, I mean The Goddess of the Resurrection. and she has to ability to literally demonize worshippers of other religions (which is why there's so many fun animal-people hybrids around), which makes it mentally easier for the crusaders of the Goddess to mop them up. easier to kill people if you don't see them as people.
her ultimate goal in all this is to swallow up all the gods she can and incorporate them into herself, because that's just what every god wants as part of their life cycle. and she's had great success, so far!
tl;dr The Ignoble Invasion of Prince Proculo might be an isekai yaoi monsterfucking book, but I couldn't have done it without minister Moncure Daniel Conway and his autism-fuelled theory book.

Gotta admit I was kind of hesitant about Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die just because I'm not generally drawn towards cringe comedy, but it was actually a lot of fun. I enjoyed the worldbuilding and Cameron is a very enjoyable dumbass. Unreliable narrators for reasons of being oblivious are fun.
Glenda, the secondary POV character, is a less enjoyable asshole but as this is The Point I enjoyed her, too! It's nice to see stories where the characters can just be flawed people bouncing off each other, I think.
The book oscillates wildly between poop jokes and genuine pathos, which is another thing I really like in a story. The period chapter got the most amusement out of me of the funny, and the [ending spoilers] that involved various characters in awe gave me the warm fuzzies. I gasped at few of the Dangerous Moments, too!
Overall enjoyed myself. Definitely something written from the heart, and also the loins.
Reading Sir Cameron: This is a great, witty, emotional whirlwind of a queer fantastical comedy. I love it. This is nice.
On Tumblr.com just browsing for cute fanart: Oh god, the complainers who whine about every queer piece of media and look too deep into absolutely everything are complaining again. Do they ever go outside and talk to real friends? I think I will now go outside and think about my silly little Cameron and Merulo kissing. Maybe I will even enjoy talking with my real friends about Cameron and Merulo kissing while we sit in the sun together. That sounds nice.

little guy missed his jump
Hey evil and terrible wizard wouldnât it be like super fucked up to turn me into a princess. Like, imagine a royal knight being turned into a helpless damsel wouldnât that be fucked up? Haha bet you canât. Unless. Just kidding but what if ha ha
my poor, pasty merulo
OH GOOD! so it is! I was actually getting anxious about that.
and also, I just noticed that Sir Cameron is on sale for pride month, with the code PRIDE26. so if anyone was still wavering over whether to grab that, now's a good chance
Apparently, Sir Cameron needs to die and, apparently, this is ancient history (spoilers):
There is an amusement park Poseidonâs Adventure. A gimmick under the sea in a glass bubble. Merry go rounds, roller coasters, all inclusive resort. self contained. One piece of the park has a showing and mural that depicts scene of magic, with a wizard, dragon, and unicorns, and a dashing knight. The things of fantasy. Nothing that is real anymore in the civilization of advanced technology . Family friendly. A perfect city for vacation.
One day, when the park is full, and the morning light filtering through the glass dome is languid, the sea changes. The whole world, in fact, shakes. A flash of power sweeps, not in the dome, but above it. A red line in the waves. Something rippling in the water, not deep enough to touch the parkâs depths. In the water, kids used to see colorful fish. But now there are leviathans. Great beasts, monsters from myth, slamming on the glass. The radio connection to the surface is first screaming, and then static. No one can contact them.
Panic. The doors are locked. Thereâs no escape, no contact above.
The people that die in the first scrambling panic, are lucky. It takes everyone else ages to die while supplies and hope dwindle. Help never comes.
Centuries later, dragons make their home here. Eventually, a knight will walk past bodies piled in the pool. This is a safe place for their machinations among the ancient forgotten technology.

I am commissioning the spider images. this is your last chance to escape
my refs are so bad
BUT THE FINAL ART IS SO GOOD
(this was done by notsoappropro, as promotional art for The Ignoble Invasion of Prince Proculo)
saw someone say âif the cat blog posts any more of their spider erotica, Iâm out of here,â so let this be a warning that itâs only going to get worse. weâre in the peaceful early stages. when this book actually goes up for sale I am gonna be commissioning so many images of tender spider lovemaking. in a horror movie this would be the âgetting weird vibes from the local at the gas stationâ stage, like you still have a chance to turn your car around and make it out alive
IT'S TIME! featuring the beautiful art of notsoappropro (who is the expert on drawing bondaged driders, hehe)
The Ignoble Invasion of Prince Proculo is officially out for pre-order, with worldwide links below:
very serious contribution to this fandom
reading about Glenda fumbling a baddie was extremely satisfying, unfortunately sometimes she was a little relatable (ok maybe just one time)
i drew a little comic page because i have these characters bouncing in my head all day and I've lost control of my life but it's Spicy so it's under the cutttt

I really really really enjoyed Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die by @pangur-and-grim and I've been meaning to scan this page from my sketchbook for weeks now.
Also have scanners always been this bad or have they gotten worse? Or am I just so used to working digitally they look crusty by comparison? I've been doing more and more traditional media stuff so this is a problem. Maybe I'll just use my camera instead?
in which sir cameron embarks on a journey of self discovery or something-
after many years of wanting to get back into books, i finally managed to finish one and it was SO funny i absolutely devoured it in 2 days, Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs To Die lives in my brain 24/7 now so here's some doodles of these IDIOTS
and a spicier one under the cut
