Actually useful shit to have as a witch
You really don't need all the fancy bullshit every tumblr influencer will ever tell you to use. Here's my countdown ofaxtually useful shit.
A pocket knife, preferably with a wood handle. Use that bitch for everything, enchant it, carve symbols in it. It will absolutely be your best friend.
A good bag or backpack with a couple of plastic or ziploc bags in it. If you ever run off into the woods to find minerals, bones, plants, etc. A set aside bag and some things to store your treasures in becomes a necessity.
Basic divinatory sets. You don't have to buy fancy shit, learn to divine with playing cards and dice, or learn geomancy, lithomancy, or rune casting with homemade sets. A tarot deck is nice, but it isn't necessary when you've got so many other divinatory aids available.
A nice sized chunk of scrap cloth. When you process dried plants or sort new ones, that shit can and will get everywhere. A scrap piece of muslin or linen can help contain all of that mess and make clean up way easier.
A stash of good rocks. Draw sigils or symbols on those babies and leave them in the garden, the windowsill, property boundaries, under the stoop, etc. You can never have too many good rocks.
A pendulum, for fucks sake. The cards are going to be vague as hell when you're trying to figure out yes or no questions, and using a candle to communicate with spirits is really fucking hard outside. If you can't afford one, find a nice chunk of pointy quartz and learn to macrame.
A workspace. Everyone talks about having big fancy altars, but no one mentions that you need a good surface to do all your work on.
Storage, so much storage. I'm not talking about mason jars and pill bottles, I'm talking about where you put all the things you put in those jars. Having a workspace with drawers is immeasurably helpful.
A broom and water source. You're going to be cleaning up after yourself a lot, it's helpful to have a jug of water and a broom that stays by your workspace.
A mode of cleansing. I make a salt concoction to scatter around my workspace on short notice and store it close by.
On that note: SOMETHING TO CANCEL SPELLS WITH. Eventually, something will go wrong. You'll want to end that spell immediately. Have something to do it with.
A strainer. If you don't have a blender, rub dried plants across it to get a powder. If you do have a blender, you can strain that powder with it. Either way, if you intend to powder shit, get a strainer.
Small trays. It makes drying flowers so much easier if you have a small metal surface to contain them with- then just stick those suckers in a southern window and let em go.
Yarn/string scraps. Having a box or drawer of scraps makes trying this up to dry easier and a bit less wasteful.
A stash of offerings for whatever you work with. Honey for fae, coins for graveyard gatekeepers, alcohol for ancestors, etc.
Protective talismans or charms. Once you're into all of this stuff, you'll likely stick your nose in something you shouldn't. Having basic protection with you or in your workspace is incredibly important. A key and hagstone with red string is simple and effective.
A lighter- so many people forget the most basic shit. You're going to want to light shit on fire if you're a witch.
And a last tip- if something is too hard for a mortar and pestle, a plastic bag and hammer works too.

Palmistry 101
When reading palms, whether your own or someone else’s, these are the main things to consider:
Which hand is dominant? For right-handed people, the left hand gives information about inherited characteristics and potential, while the right hand reveals the development, character, and life events. The opposite is true for left-handed folks!
Quality of lines and their points of intersection. How strong or fine are the lines? Are they straight and long, broken and twisted, etc.?
The directions of lines, which mounts they occur on or near, and their influences.
Shape of the hand, fingers, nails, and mounts.
General demeanor of the person and the hand.
MAJOR LINES
Each line has its own meaning and depicts a certain course of action in a person’s life. Lines come in all shapes and sizes. Not everyone has all six of these lines, although the first three are always present (the fate line is usually present as well).
Heart line: emotions, insecurities, marriages, dependence and independence, the nature of your relationships.
Head line: intellect, reasoning powers, prospective career paths, potentials for success.
Life line: pattern and quality of life, physical vitality, stability or imbalance, will power and logic, not necessarily the indicator for length of your life.
Fate/Saturn line: strengths of character, career, friendships, life’s daily problems, and general ability to succeed.
Mercury/Health line: health matters, business and adventure, the spirit of discovery.
Apollo/Sun line: utilization of creative energies and potentials for success through development of talents.
MOUNTS
The mounts are fleshy cushions underneath each of the fingers. These mounts carry the same name as the finger they are under. Below are the different character and personality traits associated with each finger/mount.
Mercury: Pinky. buoyancy, shrewdness, wit, spirit.
Apollo/Sun: Ring finger. compassion, love of beauty, artistic abilities, potential for success.
Saturn/Fate: Middle finger. seriousness, cautiousness, gloom, superstition.
Jupiter: Index finger. leadership, honor, ambition, spirituality/religiousness.
Lower Mars: Below pinky. moral courage, self-control.
Upper Mars: Below thumb. resistance, coolness of spirit, calmness, courage.
Venus: Thumb. benevolence, affection, humility, passion.
Moon: sentimentaliity, imagination, self-centeredness
CONFIGURATIONS
These are just a few of the figurative markings that are commonly seen on the hand. They add meaning to the lines or mounts they are near.
Branches: emphasize strengths.
Breaks in lines: emphasize weaknesses.
Chains: signify obscure goals, inclinations to deviate.
Crosses: signify upheavals, violence, struggles, and blunders.
Islands: indicate delays, injuries, and problems.
Stars: emphasize luckiness.
*** I will be posting more about palmistry soon, including more detailed variations of the lines and mounts! In the meantime, feel free to ask me about your palms… sending me a picture would be AMAZING :~)
Top 10 Lines in Palmistry.
Palmistry is an art of reading the hands. It is believed that everyone in this world has a destiny, which can be determined by analyzing the lines, rings and mounts on one’s hand. Out of these, lines and rings on the hand of a person are more important in context with palmistry-
1. Life Line Life line is obviously the most important line that can be found on the hand. By analysing it, one can determine how long will the bearer live and the ups and downs that he will face in his life. It starts below the mount of Jupiter (below index figure) and passes through the mount of Venus.
2. Head Line Brain is considered to be one of the most important organs of the body and line of head could tell how intelligent is the bearer of the line of head is expected to be. A long and straight line reflects a practical man whereas a curvy line of head means that the person is more creative than practical. It starts below mount of Jupiter and passes straight dividing the palm.
3. Heart Line Line of Heart is situated above the Line of Head and it determines the emotional level of a person. A short line indicates possibility of a heart attack and a complete absence of Line of Heart means that the person has no emotions in him and is likely to be of a criminal nature.
4. Fate Line The line of fate determines the fortune of a person. A straight and unbroken line of fate means that the person will be lucky in this life while a broken line of fate means that the person is likely to see lots of misfortunes during his life.
5. Sun Line Line of sun in situated below the ring finger. It determines the amount of success that a person is likely to attain in his life. A strong line of sun is considered a sign of a successful person.
6. Health Line Line of health is situated below the mount of mercury (under the little finger). It can determine the health of a person and generally, it is considered as a good sign, if this line is light or is not present at all; such a person is expected to live a healthy and ailment free life.
7. Marriage Line It is a small line situated just above the line of heart at the corner of the mount of mercury. One can have one of more line of marriage. The stronger lines represent marriage relationship while the lighter ones reflect affairs. An absence of line of marriage would mean that the person will not get married in this life.
8. Ring of Saturn It is in shape of a half moon and it surrounds the middle finger. The person, who has such a ring, is expected to be of a very serious nature and someone who likes to live alone. Generally, it is not considered a good sign to have such a ring on the hand.
9. Ring of Venus This ring starts from the middle of little finger and ring finger and end in the mid of index finger and middle finger. The bearer of such a ring is likely to be extravagant and is expected to lose his fortune due to this habit.
10. Ring of Sun This ring occupies position below the sun finger or the ring finger. Like other rings, ring of sun too is not considered to be a good sign. The bearer of such a ring is expected to be too proud and egoist in nature.

Spell to Compel Truthfulness
Think someone might be acting evasive? Brew up a bit of truth oil, and use it to compel this individual to be honest with you. If you regularly encounter people who are less than truthful, you can blend this in advance and keep it on hand for just the right occasion. If you do prepare it ahead of time, be sure to store it in a dark colored glass bottle.
You will need:
4 oz grape seed or jojoba oil
1 oz sandalwood oil
1 oz pure vanilla extract
Blend the oils and extract together by pouring them into a bottle and swirling it gently in a clockwise motion. As you do, say:
Truth be told, no more lies
Now it's time for honesty
Telling the truth will set you free
To use this oil on someone you think may be lying to you, add a small amount to your fingertips, then shake their hand or touch their clothing.

WITCHCRAFT 101 : CLEANSING
Hello everyone ! It is been a while since I posted something, so I decided to write an article about cleansing. However, everything I wrote is based by my own believes and my personnal practice : if you disagree with something I say or if you want to add something, feel free to leave a comment with your remarks. I am only starting to consider myself as an advanced witch and I am completely aware that I can do mistakes. My first desire is to learn from my mistakes.
What is cleansing and how it is different from cleaning ?
Cleansing is the act of purifying a space or an object from any negative, bad or unwanted energies that would interfere into your spellwork. This action aims to get rid of any residual energies, repulse unwanted guests such as entities from the other world, spirits, demons (although this won’t be enough alone)… It differs from cleaning.
Why is it important to cleanse ?
It is important as you don’t want any energy/entity/… to interfere during your spell or in your daily life. For example, when moving into a new house or before performing a spell. The reason is the same : to get rid off of any energies that would still be there. For the house, to repulse any energy left by the previous inhabitant of the said house, but also to prepare the space for a warding. When about to perform a spell, to let go of the previous energy I called upon during a spell I did before.
What are the different ways to cleanse ?
Each methods of cleansing has their own advantages but also their inconveniences. Here are some of the ways I learned about :
SMOKE OF HERBS AND INCENSE : One of the most well-known way to cleanse a space is to use the smoke from incense or herbs. Light the incense or burn the herbs then guide the smoke in the area.
Pros : It’s a popular practice and easy to do, the possibility to match the incense or herbs to your intents either purify a space or consecrate a space for the spell that will be cast, a good offering for deities and spirits. It also smell very good.
Cos : some herbs like Palo Santo and White Sage endangered other species and ecosystems due to their overuse. Also, there is practices from closed cultures such as smudging that cannot be done by people that do not belong to the culture. I urge you to do researches about cultural appropriation for this reason. If you live with some people that do not like the smell of incense or have medical breathing issues, this won’t be a good idea at all too.
CLEANING : Although there is a huge difference between cleansing a space before or after a ritual or a spell and tidying your room, cleaning -when intended to be a form of purification- can do wonders.
Pros : The perfect alternative for closet witches, discreet and not suspicious for non-witches. You can add certain oils in the water you use to mop the floor, grounded coffee to clean leather-made fourniture… You can pretend that you prefer more ecological ways to clean your house !
Cons : You must have some knowledge in the different ways to make your own cleaning products -if you want to make them yourself-, which can sometimes seem complicated depending of the recipe you chose. If you use essential oils, be careful about the one you want to use as some aren’t safe for skin and/or pets.
SPRAY : Another affordable way to cleanse a space is to create a water-based solution you will spray around you and the space you want to cleanse.
Pros :Easy to make, smells great too ; you can use essential oils, herbs and crystals that will match your intent.
Cons : Be cautious on the herbs, oils and crystals you use as not all of them are safe to use (selenite dissolves in water and becomes toxic, some herbs are poisonous, certain oils aren’t safe to be used around pets…). Always do some researches before making one !
MUSIC AND SOUNDS : Music and sounds are made out of the vibration of frequencies in the air. So, playing certains frequencies in a room you want to cleanse will also work of those energies. You can also use the chimes of a bell, your own voice in order to sing, or an instrument.
Pros : There is a great amount of playlists on Youtube, Spotify and Deezer compilig many songs made out of those perticular frequencies ; it helps also with meditation and… Everyone likes music, right ?
Cons : Not everyone likes music, in fact. And not everyone likes to meditate with sound too. If you live with your family or a roommate, they may not like it. Also, you may be self-conscious about your voice or your skill when playing an instrument which will make you nervous. (It is my case)
CRYSTALS : Some crystals are known to attract certains things to the owner of the stone (love and friedship for rose quartz, focus with tiger eyes…), and some others are known to help to purify and protect a space by absorbing energies such as clear quartz or obsidian.
Pros : They are elegantly pretty and various, some are affordable
Cons : Among the fact that some crystals can be pretty expensive or will need a bigger amount of cleansing -because crystals needs to be cleanse more or less often- it also require child labour and poor wages for the minners that collect them. Please, be cautious about that, inform yourself on the business behind and try to purchase from equitable suppliers as much as possible.
If I forgot to add a method or if I did a mistake somewhere, please do not hesitate to leave a comment or to send me a DM. I hope that this will help some of you. May your days be blessed and your lives safe from any harm.
Traditional Herbal & Plant Spells.
From Plant Lore, Legends, and Lyrics (1884) by Richard Folkhard, Jr.
Note: There are some medicinal or curative spells listed in the book, however I am not giving them here because they should not be considered as serious medical advice. -grimoirebabylon
Catmint will cause those of the most gentle and mild dispositions to become fierce and quarrelsome.
Crocus-flowers will produce laughter and great joy.
Rosemary, worn about the body, strengthens the memory.
He who sows seed should be careful not to lay it on a table, otherwise it will not grow.
In sowing peas, take some of them in your mouth before the sun goes down, keep them there in silence while you are sowing the rest, and this will preserve them from sparrows.
A piece of wood out of a coffin that has been dug up, when laid in a Cabbage-bed, will defend it from caterpillars.
A bunch of wild Thyme and Origanum, laid by the milk in a dairy, prevents its being spoiled by thunder.
Sunflowers are also held to be a protection against thunder.
A bunch of Nettles laid in the barrel, in brewing, answers the same purpose.
Water Pepper, put under the saddle of a tired horse, will refresh him and cause him to travel well again.
Basil, if allowed to rot under an earthen jar, will become changed into scorpions, and the frequent smelling of this herb is apt to generate certain animals like scorpions in the brain.
The Oak being a prophetic tree, a fly in the gall-nut is held to foretell war ; a maggot, dearth ; a spider, pestilence.
Glamours & Love
Lilies of the Valley, gathered before sunrise, and rubbed over the face, would take away freckles.
Wild Tansy, soaked in butter-milk for nine days, and then applied as a wash to the face, would cause the user to look handsome.
Take a root of the Bracken-fern, and, cutting its stem very low down, would show to the inquiring maiden the initial letter of her future husband’s name.
Procure two- leaved and four-leaved Clover, and even-leaved Ash, by the aid of which lovers would be forthcoming before the day was over.
Sow hemp in the churchyard at midnight on St. Valentine’s Eve.
Yarrow was to be found growing on a dead man’s grave, then the magic plant should be placed beneath their pillow.
For Prophetic Dreams
Fresh Mistletoe-berries (not exceeding nine in number), steeped in a liquid composed of equal proportions of wine, beer, vinegar, and honey, taken as pills on an empty stomach before going to bed, will cause dreams of your future destiny (providing you retire to rest before twelve) either on Christmas-eve or on the first and third of a new moon.
Similar dreams may be procured by making a nosegay of various-coloured flowers, one of a sort, a sprig of Rue, and some Yarrow off a grave ; these must be sprinkled with a few drops of the oil of Amber, applied with the left hand, and bound round the head under the night-cap, when retiring to bed, which must be supplied with clean linen.
A prophetic dream is to be procured through the medium of what is known as “Magic Laurel,” by carrying out the following formula : —Rise between three and four o'clock in the morning of your birthday, with cautious secresy, so as to be observed by no one, and pluck a sprig of Laurel ; convey it to your chamber, and hold it over some lighted brimstone for five minutes, which you must carefully note by a watch or dial ; wrap it in a white linen cloth or napkin, together with your own name written on paper, and that of your lover (or if there is more than one, write all the names down), write also the day of the week, the date of the year, and the age of the moon ; then haste and bury it in the ground, where you are sure it will not be disturbed for three days and three nights; then take it up, and place the parcel under your pillow for three nights, and your dreams will be truly prophetic as to your destiny.
A dream of fate is to be procured on the third day of the months between September and March by any odd number of young women not exceeding nine, if each string nine Acorns on a separate string (or as many Acorns as there are young women), wrap them round a long stick of wood, and place it in the fire, precisely at midnight. The maidens, keeping perfect silence, must then sit round the fire till all the Acorns are consumed, then take out the ashes, and retire to bed directly, repeating— “May love and marriage be the theme, To visit me in this night’s dream ; Gentle Venus, be my friend, The image of my lover send ; Let me see his form and face, And his occupation trace ; By a symbol or a sign, Cupid, forward my design.”
