I feel like at first he'd be unconscious for a day and the others would have to carry him when they get into castletown for the first time. Then the tape holding him together would have to be replaced with proper bandages, and he'd be laid to rest in a bed until he wakes up. The moment depicted here is the time he wakes up- his family is there to greet him, pulling him in to a big (but gentle) hug and welcoming him back with teary eyes. And for just a moment, the ache in his side is overpowered by the warmth blooming through his chest. They were all so worried about him- but now he's home.
