As a point of interest: contour lines aren't really used for marine charts unless they're noting the shape of a shallow underwater feature like a shoal or reef (and even then, it tended to be just a shaded area before modern depth measurement got more accurate). So it's probably a chart with a dozen little crossed out numbers and corrections. Someone give that boy a red pen.

That's really interesting! At least it's less drawing for Hornblower.... though that does mean he'll have to go back to practicing the lunar distance method of calculating longitude to deal with the boredom. Poor thing.
