The Mountain Goats recently made a song about a famous moment in found footage horror history that I've written about on here before. In 1985, a full 14 years before "The Blair Witch Project" introduced the mainstream to found footage horror, a really gory found footage movie called "Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood" was released in Japan. This faux snuff film eventually made its way into the VHS tape trading underground of the United States, where, several years after its release, a copy found its way into the hands of a young actor by the name of Charlie Sheen.
Sheen watched the movie and, believing it to be a genuine version of the snuff film that it's pretending to be, alerted the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI apparently took the movie seriously until they found a documentary about the making of the movie that detailed how they did their gore effects.

I used to think βsoupΓ§onβ was a French word for crouton and I used it as the French word for crouton for a long time and nobody stopped me.
SoupΓ§on actually means βsuspicionβ and the reason nobody called me out on this is because I would use the word to imply the idea of something sprinkled on top of something else ala croutons. If someone said, βA soupΓ§on of homoeroticism,β I thought it meant βSomeone sprinkled homoeroticism on this story like croutons on a delightful Caesar salad.β
I wrote multiple essays that used soupçon as a noun with this translation in mind and I got a degree and this haunts me.

Who made the biggest sword ever?
"Biggest" can mean a few things:
The heaviest sword of all time is the 468lb "Le Glaive Chungeuse" of King Louis LXIX, so heavy nobody could wield it.
The longest sword ever made was the Gobai-nodachi, or "quintuple length longsword" forged by Masayoshi Johnson for a ceremony said to have resulted in the deaths of everyone present.
The thickest sword, three feet thick but only six inches long, was the Hungarian Chodesaber, which was used mostly for flattening dough.
The widest sword is currently the Grand Coronation Stub of King Charles, ruler of England as of March 2024. Shaped like a shallow isosceles triangle, its tip is almost 165 degrees.
The most expensive sword ever forged was the Diamond Sprinklesword of Muffy von Fitzwiggle-Plumnugget, which a rich Californian gave to his chihuahua for its third birthday. It could have paid to feed 30 billion people for five lifetimes.
The "biggest" sword in terms of fame and notoriety is the Sword of Damocles, which metaphorically hangs over the head of those with power as a reminder to be responsible lest they grow greedy or despotic. It has not been seen since around November of 2016.
Though not "big" per se, the sharpest sword of all time is currently being constructed at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and will be exactly one hydrogen ion thick at its point. It will be used exclusively to get the gunk out from the fingernails of the intern who is forging it. And God knows Harold needs it, just look at them on his facebook they're fucking disgusting.

i've been asked where/how to find early-mid 20th century images of black people to reference when drawing/writing/whatever, so i figured i'd link to my own personal resource anyone is welcome to utilize! :)
with over 900 pins and counting, this pinterest board focuses entirely on black style from the 1800s - 1970s. itβs been harder than ever to research historical fashion without running into AI, misinformation, and flat out mislabeling of different eras, so iβve done my best to represent each period as accurately as i can.
iβve included sections for non-caricatured art and illustration, print media, music, entertainment, styling tools, and ads. there are also sections for period pieces and more modern takes on vintage style. i did not add the 80s and 90s because there's already a wealth of imagery and information about those decades, but maybe one day :)
