The top down version of the hat came off the needles on Monday. I used Jeny's stretchy bind off, and I am not sure how I feel about it. I see how I like it after giving it a soak.
I am back to starting at the brim for the next version. This time the colorways of Quartet fingering by Magpie Fibers are 501's and Bell Bottom Blues.

The hat sat still for a couple days while I decided whether to make it a bit longer than the original before going into the ribbing. I decided to go a half of a repeat more because I know the person that I am making this for likes his ears completely covered. Hopefully, this will be done in a few days.
Look at me! Spinning again!
I decided that I should get back to spinning. I always found spinning a good way to relax (at least when everything is working correctly.) Since it has been a while, I needed to get my wheel back in shape. Greased things up, switched out the dry rotted rubber band with a hair elastic, and but some shims in the hole of one of the footman to keep everything in place.
The fiber is merino/silk/bamboo that I was halfway through spinning already.
Decided to reknit the brioche hat that I did over a year ago, making some changes to it so I can more easily get a range of sizes. Also, I am trying it from the top down. (I started it on dpns.) Would you go for a top down hat pattern? Or are you strictly brim up? (Or are you Musselburgh?)

So, the first person that I came out to was my friend from college, Tonya. We met in bowling class, and she got me to join the gospel choir because they needed a bass.
It was 30 years ago and I was in the closet. But I was with someone that I was hiding from everyone. I gave Tonya a call. I believe it was an occasion where would normally call each other, like Christmas. While she was who I trusted the most, I was still nervous. If this didn't work out, this was going to be an even more difficult road than I had been anticipating.
After some conversation and some stammering on my part, "Tonya, I have something to tell you. I'm gay."
"Aw, honey, I knew that. I was just waiting for you to tell me."
I wish that I could say every other conversation with others went that well, but at least I knew that I had someone in my corner and I wasn't going to be starting this part of my life from zero.

This project came together rather quickly. For this one I used a skein of Fiber Optic Yarns Kashmir in the colorway Peace and leftovers from my June 2024 release of the Wavelength Wrap (second photo), which uses the Over the Rainbow Infinity Fade.
I will be releasing this in some form. I just have to get my ducks in a row.
Also, the choice of pride related colors for this one was not accidental for me. I have been struggling with what to say for pride that will be of some use. I have been editing it down, realizing I was complicating it by putting too many thoughts into one short post. More on that later.

I usually don't block shawls on a weeknight because I am usually not sure how long it will take. But this is the second of this shawl and it only took about 20 minutes to pin out.

Off the blocking board! I'm calling this the Satisfying Stripes Shawl, and I will be writing it up in the near future. I see it as a quick summer knit to use up minis and/or leftovers.
Decided to block with the right side facing the mat so that I could adjust the woven in ends before it dries. We shall see if that was the right decision.

Champ de Tulipes, on size 3 needles, in warp twist cotton 10/2. painted with dye-na-flow
i had a lot of fun with this one! (ok, i have a lot of fun with all of them - i am really enjoying painting lace!)
I did the colors first, then came in and painted the black over them. i admit was hoping for a teeny bit more color showing through, but that's ok.
all freehand again. i keep thinking i should use some sort of shield or other masking tool, but i'd need a third hand to make that work! (the airbrush only takes one hand, of course, but holding that hand steady requires the use of the other one!)
the newest knit socks to enter my collection! really happy with how these came out ☺️
*squints* As a perpetual amateur, I'm pretty sure this is magic?!? I feel like magic should be disclosed when showing finished crafts 😂 (But seriously, these are fab, well done!)
honestly, i think socks seem harder than they actually are to knit. if you can handle small projects in the round (whether with dpns, short circular needles, or the magic loop method) then they're actually quite easy, and if you haven't done small projects in the round yet, i think socks are a great way to learn. The hardest part is the heel turn, but even that i really struggle to call difficult -- you can definitely not understand what you are doing & just follow instructions & it'll work.
to make a top-down sock with a heel flap like this, you really only have to know how to knit, purl, slip stitches, pick up stitches, ssk, and k2tog. That's it. i dove into sock knitting pretty early on -- just after i'd figured out beanies. i'd never touched anything lace, and i've still never made a large garment like a sweater.
the fanciest thing in these particular socks is the folded cuff, which i only recently added to my repertoire. And honestly, even that is mostly just time consuming & tedious rather than difficult.
edit: you also need to kitchener stitch the toe closed, but much like the heel turn i believe that falls in to the category of "you don't have to understand what you are doing, and it is really quite simple". i forgot to mention it originally because its a sewing method rather than a knitting method -- whoops!
