One of the names that I considered for this pattern was Crossfade, but decided against it because I thought it implied too much about the color. That said, if you want to do a fade for My Ever Changing Moods, but not sure how to go about it, here is what I did.

Each colorway that I selected had a color in it that could be found in the next colorway. (Or, at least, was similar enough.) Slainte and Lavandula have a blue in common. There's a purple in common between the Lavandula and Vegetable Medley. And finally, Vegetable Medley and Cin Cin share an orange.

Will this work 100% of the time? Probably not, but it is a place to start with putting colorways together when I get overwhelmed by choices and nudges me in a direction that I want to go.

My Ever Changing Moods Shawl is live!

This shawl began life at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. I saw all of the new colorways that Into the Whirled had created, and I wanted to design something that would blend some of them together. I eventually settled on a tuck stitch that would serve to transition between colorways, while still only working with one strand of yarn at a time.

The garter stitch adds a bit of texture. I decided on this triangular shape to help move the colors around with the short repeats that are used in these yarns.

Ive got 2 full bobbins of the southdown, and decided to spin another bobbin of this red merino which I bought specifically for the southdown, back when I hoped to spin it finer. But I figured it'll still help stretch the southdown for a bit of extra yardage, plus it should help even it out a little (the southdown is very hard to spin evenly when doing a thicker long draw). And I probably won't use this merino otherwise, so, might as well !

I was initially spinning it using my usual short forwards draft, but it was really hurting my hands after a while, so I switched to short backwards draft. I don't think I've ever actually successfully done short backwards draft but I was emboldened to try it because of all the long draw I've been doing. It's much easier on my hands and not too hard to get consistent. And a little more interesting, too.
